ok. 2 weeks no ciggies and for the past week didnt want any either. but i went to this naturopath last wednesday and im not sure what he did but i lost all desire to smoke, physical anyway. hardest thing is the moments that i enjoyed a ciggie, bar, at night after work, etc. but the naturopath definitely helped the cravings a ton. now, i just say that after not smoking for two weeks it'd really suck to start again, i usually go back after a day, so it feels much more normal now not to smoke, than it did after, like, two or three days.

good luck everyone, and i would definitely recommend this naturopath, helped me feel much more relaxed about it all.
ok spill the beans sista.....I need any contacts/recommendations of this naturopath down this way - pronto

Re: AbFab's 10 tips to quit smoking in 10 days

That is very very good news indeed, well done all of you!

The first time I stopped smoking was for 3 years. And after 3 years I thought I could enjoy the luxury of one cigarette a week. I couldn't as I started smoking at work again.

The second time I gave up was about 12 years ago, and now I know I am addicted to cigarettes and will never smoke again.

I have to stop smoking so I can get pregnant. I've just loaded Alan Carr's book onto my kindle. I smoke less than 10 a day so hopefully I can make it. Wish me luck, and keep up the good work everyone!

I stopped yesterday. Had a look at the threads in the EF regarding the subject and found it very helpful, I am also looking up on the internet all the consequences/risks generated by cigarettes and it does give me a lot of strenght to go on. Just a bit worried about the weight thing...

I would suggest increasing your current level of 'cardio vascular' fitness.
(not saying you do nothing now... just step it up)

There are two advantages:
1) you will feel like crap and your lungs will let you know all about it (thus driving you to refrain from the smokes).
2) Any increase in diet associated with stopping smoking will be offset by burning off more calories.

I used to live with a crazy smoking Chemist once before and she reckons that you gain wait for two reasons:
1) you look for something else to eat so you are using your hands rather than holding a durrie with them. and
2) The chemicals in tobacco smoke both supress hunger, and also inhibit the efficiency of enzymes in the small intestine - thus smokers can be skinnier on average.

Try to hang out with more people who don't smoke as well (difficult in Switzerland I know)..... and keep following this thread to follow everyone else for inspiration.

This thread is helping a lot, knowing that I'm not alone. The Carr book is great as well. Haven't smoked in 12 hours...

Thank you! What I find particularly interesting is all the talk about fear in the book, particularly fear of boredom and lack of concentration. In the short time I haven't smoked, I've written to several friends, had nice conversations and bonded more with my cat, whom I've discovered loves cashews

It does seem kind of easy and certainly way more interesting not to smoke.

Now if I could only help a dear friend who works in big tobacco... It's really a nightmare of addiction there.

ok my dear, so far i still don't even wanna smoke. well, only because i want to have an excuse to leave during a boring conversation or something like that-smoking is good for escaping at things like that. anyway pm coming your way. klausanne, i have realized that i waste an incredible amount of time smoking and just well, smoking. it seems i'm doing something else, but actually i get so much done recently, it's crazy, but i also have a ton more energy. for me that's the only way i've lasted so long, keeping busy. if you need support nearby, drop a line and we'll not smoke together.
oh. and my son finally got me to sit down and do jigsaw puzzles with him, this gets me thru the early evening when i usually want a glass and a smoke. now i take a tea and a puzzle. pathetic but healthier, hahaha

Re: AbFab's 10 tips to quit smoking in 10 days

Hello, this is my fifth day without smoking a cigarette and I feel great, it has not been as difficult as I thought, I am trying to control what I eat and can say that am not eating much more than usual. I am also following as much as I can Billhardie's advice (thanks for that!)

I am very happy for Amaraya and KS, stay strong and remember one cigarette at a time.

Will keep you posted.

Re: AbFab's 10 tips to quit smoking in 10 days

I've only skimmed the thread so it may already have been mentioned. If not, I know many people who rave about Champix. It's like any pharma drug in that it has a long list of side-effects. But those I know who've not been able to quit with other methods found this one not only worked but was less difficult in terms of the process/withdrawal.
