I'm a little concerned that a gentleman should be having his hair cut by a lady barber. Unless, of course, the gentleman is a Portuguese footballer, in which case we may excuse his feminine preferences.

A gentleman of taste should always visit a barber such as the charming fellow who occasionally cuts hair in his little shop opposite the Oliver Twist in Rindermarkt, Zurich, in between watching videos of old blues and rock performances, drinking beer and schmoozing with various fascinating and somewhat eccentric visitors. I couldn't guarantee the quality of the trim (although I have never had cause to complain), but the entertainment is without compare. Sitting in the chair, bottle in hand, one is treated to an endless stream of walk-on characters, a little like being the guest star in a formulaic situation comedy. Indeed, both the Muppets and Desmonds spring to mind.

So, if 'styling' is less your thing, and hearty masculine entertainment is as important to you as the scent of the pomade, pay the chap a visit. Tell him you know me. He won't know who the hell I am, but you might get a beer out of him all the same...
