Relocating to Mars

For all those people who don't feel very confortable where they are living at the moment, there is an alternative: become one of the residents of the permanent human settlement on Mars!!

Well, I guess that's one way of trying to solve our planet's population problem.

Yeah, but there's 40 minutes more each day to do your shopping in.

Re: Relocating to Mars

I was away from English Forum for few days. Came back today to find out some crazy stuff.

People relocating to MARS, Spiderman selling his jackets (For sale - Spiderman Jacket - Navy jacket).

I wonder if it has anything to do with long winter in Switzerland

I would go only if I personally got dibs on the laundry rota for the 40 extra minutes a day.

Also very good for all the ladies (and not only) who want to lose weight. You would lose more than half of it instantly with your first step there

Sadly mass is unavoidable though... unless you plan to travel there at the speed of light.

No, but the internet connection will be terrible, so nobody can hear you complain anyway.

Re: Relocating to Mars

Does anybody else find it weird that Humanity was so afraid of a Martian invasion back in the mid 1900's...... but now it's us who actually invaded Mars.

and the first thing our intellectual elite do, is draw a dick on the face of Mars

Yes, but with all the foreigners coming - will the property prices "bubble" continue?

People were asked in April 2013 to sign up for the trip of a lifetime,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22360228

The Mars One Astronaut Selection Program began accepting applications in April, and has now closed. Interest was expressed by 202,586 people from around the globe. It's becoming a one way trip, the ultimate Big Brother show,

Re: Relocating to Mars

Here are the finalists, there is one from Switzerland and one from the UK!

http://www.theguardian.com/science/2...fuls?CMP=fb_gu

Excuse my ignorance here, but how is this all going to work? Some of them are not even 30 years old. How do they get enough water for another 50+ years?? What about food, are they just going to live off of canned food from Earth or can they grow anything there?? Are they going to build the compound themselves? Won't that take ages without cranes and more people to help? What if one of the women gets pregnant!!! Argh I have so many (probably dumb) questions about it!

Re: Relocating to Mars

It doesn't really matter does it, as there are no return journeys planned, that I know of. Can you imagine spending months and months with the same people in a very small vehicle? It makes submarine life seem like a very big luxury.

I know it's impressionistic and maybe patronising of me but I just can't help thinking that they haven't thought it through properly!
