| | | Sweets What Were Your Favourite's As A Child ?
As a child I loved space dust - you know that gritty sour stuff that fizzed and popped on your tongue - we really thought it had come from the moon !!
Oh to be a child and have such innocent memories?
I also remember Black Jacks and Fruit Salads for 1/2 p each !! ( I am 40)
Would love to hear your favourite ones and whether you can still buy any of these ? |

They were little powdery violet - flavoured tablets. Same texture as Love Hearts, but nicer flavour.
OK - what sweet had this advertising slogan:
"A man's gotta chew what a man's gotta chew"?

I can remember them at two a farthing, which was probably the year before you bought them for a ha'penny... I was 4 1/2 and used to get a ha'penny a day for sweets when I went to school. Which meant I got 4!!

I loved (and still do) the flying saucers. Rice paper shaped flying saucers filled with sherbet. Mmmm

This website has a page all about snacks and sweets: http://tv.cream.org/
Look under "Special Assignments" and "Best Before".
It looks like you can buy most of the old favourites here: http://www.bagofsweets.com
I used to get "Kop Kopps" as other kids didn't like them, meaning I wouldn't have to give any to the "scavs" at school.
Cheers,
Nick

Karate belts. I was always allowed one after my swimming lesson and hence the sweet taste was always tinged with a chlorine finish...

Being abit of a Billy Bunter, I was very dissapointed when my mother pointed out that Terrys didn't make Orange Dwarves for human consumption ... |

Don't forget Uncle Joe's Mintballs and Curly Aniseed. There used to a stall at Leigh Market that sold them.

We couldn't afford sweets in my house as a kid. I used to get them sometimes when visiting friends, but generally I kept a little pebble in my pocket so when all the other kids were scoffing their sweet goodness, I'd pretend to have a jaw breaker.
But I were grateful, my old Ma loved me, despite spending the child allowance on Gin and cigarettes.
Dad went out one day and promised to bring me some liqorice laces but he never came back.
Mmm, the happy memories are flooding back...

Gobstoppers and Traffic Lights - used to buy them on the way home from school with my friends and we'd get all sticky taking them out of our mouths to see what colour they were at the moment
