Rosetta's comet (Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko)

Rosetta's comet (Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko) is coming to life and giving off gas. The probe is close enough to it to analyze the gases and there are a surprising number of chemicals; surprising to me anyway.
I always thought these comets lived in the icy darkness with maybe some hydrogen and helium on board, I wonder where these chemicals came from and how they were formed. look Here

Good news

European Space Agency says its Philae comet lander has woken up from hibernation and made contact with Earth

Re: Rosetta's comet (Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko)

The European Space Agency (ESA), which is leading a consortium that includes NASA, announced that the mission to explore Comet 67P has discovered 16 organic compounds, described as "carbon and nitrogen-rich."

The agency says on its website that the discovery, made by the Philae lander includes four compounds that have never before been detected in comets.

And it adds that some of the compounds "play a key role in the prebiotic synthesis of amino acids, sugars ... the ingredients for life."

Fascinating; I always thought comets were dead frozen things.

These space programs are OK, bufore we devote much more resources in searching for evidence of intelligent life in outer space, we should first try find some on our own planet.

It is a question of return on investment. Higher probability of finding intelligent life in outer space so consequently a better investment.

If we do find intelligent life, they're probably much more intelligent than us. I'm not sure at all if it would be a good thing to find some - we might find ourselves in the role of lab rats.
