Re: Your worst guest/host experience

I had a friend staying for a few days.. i could hear he had brought a 'friend' home one night...
I came down in the morning and smelt cigarette smoke.. odd none of us smoke. Standing in the kitchen was a tranny , yep a full blown hairy arsed builder type in a wig make up and a dress. Needless to say they both didn't stay very long.

Re: Your worst guest/host experience

I don't know about best or worst but if you want memorable...one time a college friend stayed over with her boyfriend because they were in town. I could not sleep because they were having noisy, wild sex in the living room until about 3 a.m. They didn't even try to hide it, and broke my coffee table. I didn't want to know, and haven't seen her since.

Re: Your worst guest/host experience

Hmmm...I think I am lucky and fortunate to be able to keep fab people around, plus we are quite rare to each other, so no crazy stories.

Except maybe one, long time ago, when I was expected to drop my wedding all together and become: a primadona's tour guide, a hostess, a personal assistant, a nurse for her hangover, a bartender and a major crisis manager. It didn't go over too well, obviously, but even if the timing was better, I have no patience for somebody's self entitlement.

we recently had a great christmas party. friends from a city further away asked to stay over but (conveniently ) we had someone else staying. long story short, the guest we were supposed to had ended up leaving with someone (the party was THAT good ) and these friends invited themselves to stay and we didn't have the heart to say no, but i really felt like it wouldn't be a great idea. fast forward to everyone else gone by 2:30, them going to the fridge and opening up a bottle of champagne and us staying up until about 4. ok, that was fine.

but the next day, we had plans, we said so, they asked for us to leave our keys for them to stay longer and leave when they were ready and we said, sorry but no. as i waited for the female part of the couple to get ready and take up the bathroom, she came out asking if i had any more of the makeup remover she found in my cabinet as she just used the last of it needless to say, we actually liked the two quite a lot before, but not everyone is meant to be a houseguest and they aren't bad people, just a bit clueless-

i think if i behaved the same way at their place it wouldn't be an issue for them. but maybe i was just too hungover, it was an issue for me. now we only see them out and never again to stay over...
Reminds me of a party where the lady of the house asked one of the extra well oiled guests if he would like to use the bathroom (code "use the toilet").
He decided to have a bath and locked the door.

The rest of us, also well oiled, had to use the small garden as a toilet which resulted in a chain of complaining neighbours.
Another one of the guests was the aggressive type and broke one neighbour's nose who then called the police.

Then there was another birthday party about 15 years on 6th December when temperature was some degrees under zero and a couple of cm of snow lying around.

Around midnight the Swiss birthday boy marched us down to the Rhein and instructed all the men to strip off and jump in; which we all did.

Re: Your worst guest/host experience

really weird experience. Guest left after quite a saga and we went to check the answering machine and there was an intercepted (accidentally recorded) conversation where she was planning her affair with a (married) man she had met...to this day, it was the strangest thing.

A few weeks later we got a distressed phonecall from the wife of the man, explaining that this woman had made enormous problems for her and her husband was violent and abusive...

And no, it was not a hoax...it was absolutely genuine...

very strange...if the answering machine had not caught the conversation, we would have suspected, but never known what was going on...all the bits and pieces fitted together...but it was a one-in-a-million thing...

We also 'hosted' a man who obtained a tourist visa by deception and then overstayed his visa...and was hunted down by immigration... but he was a nice enough guy, just making desperate decisions...I had follow-up phonecalls 2-3 years later when he applied a second time for a visa...I was given the option to advise the authorities whether I would be inclined to support or refuse the visa...I was amazed at how thorough they were in tracking me down to verify the information...

Re: Your worst guest/host experience

A senior from my college days with whom I ( thought ) was close wanted to come over , visit the city I lived in.
Enthusiastically I took two days off work to spend time with her.
She arrived in the morning, had breakfast and left to meet someone only to return at 11 pm.
The Next day was a repeat of the same. I realized with dismay that I was "bed and breakfast" while she met her real friends. After breakfast she was no where to be found. Apparently She had gone to buy me gifts - for the services rendered.
Since it was early morning she could not any find shops open , she returned with a bag full of coke and biscuits.
