Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I totally believe it, but have absolutely zero evidence. Some of the stories circulating out there contain too many details to be pure chance. A few years ago there was this Nicole Kidman movie "Birth" which bunked the theory, but did it rather well using a smart kid.

If you can accept that we're just a bunch of carbon molecules glued together with base elements and that cells have the ability to reproduce, then there's no reason why cell memory could not be transferred to another living soul once the previous carrier body is no more.

There are many that believe that our true existential form is when we are in deep sleep and dreaming, the state of being awake is actually the dream. I think we're only in the infancy of learning about what we're actually capable of and who we are and why we exist.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

Almost every memory of my present life I remember in third person---which is essentially impossible---so I don't know who's been living my life :P

So my dreaming self is doing a shity job at dreaming my real life. I should be a Billionaire and have the looks of a super model.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I DO actually remember thinking/feeling as a child that everything has changed so much and how and when did things change to such an extent?

Changed from what though I can't remember and what the world was like before, have no idea.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

In the greater scheme of things there is no before, next or somewhere else, there only is, everywhere and always. A holographic soup of consciousness in which we all swim, as one but as an infinite more too. It is constantly folding and unfolding simultaneously and we are it; folding and unfolding at the same time.

Since everything is happening at the same time, always and everywhere, this iteration of ourselves, which is threaded to all others, somehow collides with another and so we think it's happened before.

What's even more bizarre is that we think this is happening in the first place.

If there is a higher self then he has a really weird sense of humour.

What's your take on that topic, does anyone remember their former lives, do you know of somebody who does or is it all just bogus?

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I don't understand what people are talking about. How can one have a previous life?

Exactly what did this previous person have in common with you? When the previous person died, what exactly was preserved that was implanted into you? How did this happen and what is the purpose of it?

Come on people, use your intelligence.

Er, maybe, but I'm questioning the existence of that other slice of toast, or that 'previous life'. In fact, it's not for me to "question its existence" but for someone to demonstrate its existence.

Load o'baloney.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

What about "Karma"? Isn`t that to do with former lives?

"One has to work thru the Karma of all the evil one has done in previous lives?" Or the good? Or whatever?

Or is that just some other form of hocus pocus?

What about "Old souls"? Why are some people described as being "Old souls"?

When your" toast gets flipped", you`lll find out!

One sure way to find out everything is to wait till you die.
Or maybe not, if there`s nothing out there but a big black void?

Or maybe its "as you think so you will be"?
If you think there`s nothing, then you get nothing.
And if you think you know you`re going into a big shining new world, you are?

My grandmother as she was dieing said she saw a big shining light, reached out her hands and smiled so happily (like she saw someone/something she recognised). And then Zap she was gone.

I always wondered about the maths; there are far more people in the world now so they probably could not all have past lives (I mean there were only so many Egyptian princesses, which seems to be a favourite) - unless several people share the same past life?
According to this, only 6.5% of the people who have ever lived on Earth are alive today. So it's possible there's a past life for each of us. Not me, though. There's no room in my brain for someone else's memories.

My uncle was similar. He was ill for some time. On the day he died, he was sleeping peacefully and my aunt was sitting beside him reading a book. He suddenly sat up in bed, wide awake, and shouted "Hallelujah Jesus!" as he reached out both his arms toward the ceiling. Then he dropped back to the pillow, dead.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

Eastern philosophies have delved into these mysteries and offer, from their point of view, reasons and experiences which were and for a lot of people still are explanatory. Try 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead'.

'Karma' explains a lot about how the universe is experienced, but doesn't mean you get to put another fellow's eye out in a next life because of what he did to you at sometime.

I had the feeling for many years that I had at one time been stabbed to death. Later, in my teens i was asked why I had such scars on my back, scars I had never seen because of the position they are in.

I don't think we understand the world at all.

It's easy enough to find out whether these marks are healed knife wounds or naturally occurring blemishes.

I know which one my money is on!

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

Just bear in mind one's memory is not infallible; ask a number of people about an event they all witnessed first-hand and you'd get a slightly different description from everyone. The brain is also quite adept at constructing memories from similar situations (or even unconnected partial recollections) almost instantaneously. Hence phenomena such as déja vu and former life experiences.

Dr. Ian Stevenson who spent years investigating children who seemed to remember past lives gained a whole portfolio of evidence based on scars, injuries, deformations, as well as talents and natural born abilities was convinced these were ways of connecting past and present lives.

According to Wikipedia, Dr Ian Stevenson died in 2007.

I wonder what he's up to now?

"Children who seemed to remember past lives"? Mmm, I don't think "evidence" is the right word here.

What do you mean by "past lives"? I ask again: what connects you with this person who previously lived? In what sense are you the same person? You can't have the same DNA if you have different parents -- and therefore you can't be the same person in any meaningful way.
