"Children who seemed to remember past lives"? Mmm, I don't think "evidence" is the right word here.

What do you mean by "past lives"? I ask again: what connects you with this person who previously lived? In what sense are you the same person? You can't have the same DNA if you have different parents -- and therefore you can't be the same person in any meaningful way.
It's all about immortal soul, that divine part of us.

So are we talking about simple religious belief? Fair enough if we are. I'm an atheist, which explains my bafflement with this silliness about previous lives. We are no more 'divine' than any other creature and we do not have an immortal soul. Sorry!

Depends. Christians don't believe in reincarnations.

Don't spoil the fun. The whole point about religion is that you get to make up the rules as you go along. If enough people start talking about life after death, then that starts to sound like evidence.

There is. If you can't see it, it's because you're EVIL.

I sense a starting point for a new religion...

Do you want to be a prophet? A saint at least?

That's not for everyone.
Are there any atheist pastors? We really need to spread the word. For the unwashed and un-intellectual masses...

I think we should be aiming higher. How about inveigling an atheist into a bishopric?

Oh no, no those semites. They're easy. Have you thought about a Kalash, happily vegetarian and a non-smoker father?

Ooops! That's torn it. I edited that post in order to avoid being accused of racist disablist homophobic anti-semitic tendencies, and now you've gone and spilled the beans. As for non-smoking happy vegetarian Kalashes, personally I can't stand them, because I've never met one, but I would defend to the death their right to not smoke, to be happy, to eat vegetables, to kalash and to father children.

How can it be that I agree with you, you in your utter refusal to consider the possibilities of reincarnation? I'm an athiest too - maybe not in the strictest sense but enough to be able to use the words. Nor do I think we have a soul, whereby this would rather depend upon the definition we are willing to attribute to the word. Nor are we 'divine' , this is a word borrowed from religion and the belief in a paradise.
But it is worthwhile taking the time to do a little research into the possibility of our world not really being what it is when viewed from 8 billion pairs of eyes - all who see it differently anyway.

Meantime, belief in reincarnation is one of the fundamentals of a religion followed by around one billion people.

it's not about religion. Spirituality is different of religion. (and not, I'm not going to say more about that, it's something personal)

Well, that's what you believe, it's the choice you made before coming here, so it's what you experiment and it's absolutely wonderful.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

Re-incarnation is similar to all those other mumbo-jumbo constructs like religion or astrology, in that it's sufficiently vaguely defined that you can never disprove it. You can always tweak the definition to accommodate whatever arguments or evidence you encounter.

However, the fact that you can't disprove a thing is no reason to believe that the thing may be true. There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in our philosophy, so let's concentrate on the things in heaven and earth first.

Im doubt very much if those people, and I have met many of them, who use words such as mumbo-jumbo, horseshit, old blarney and so on have actually ever bothered to really inform themselves of the topic which happens to be in question.

It would be much better if we could have some reasons why for instance reincarnation is not possible. That, I'm sure would be interesting and would of course show that the subject had been delved into.

Please.
