Remembering Your Former Life

I've watched a documentary which featured people whom apparently remember pieces of their former lives. This seems very interesting and I am curious. What's your take on that topic, does anyone remember their former lives, do you know of somebody who does or is it all just bogus?

Consciously, no ...... but in dreamstate; so many pieces of a broken puzzle - I love dreaming and the apparent disjointed unpredictability. It must come from somewhere.

I think "Bogus", implying invented, made up, pretend, is the wrong word. I'm sure there are folks who genuinely believe in it.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I remember having memories when I was very young which - much later in life - I realised couldn't have been from a childhood in 1970s Staffordshire.

I don't know if they're any kind of hint of a past life, but I'd love to know where they came from if they're not.

Some of the stories I've read and heard from friends have been fascinating, though. Lots of toddlers talking about their "other mummies" and suchlike.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

When my nephew was a toddler, he was in the car with my parents. They were driving past an old mill not far from where they live when my nephew said " that's where I worked when I was a man".

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

My take on all paranormal beliefs (including religion) is that it's people's ways of coping with their finite life. I find it quite presumptuous that many humans only think in terms of their own afterlife or fore life, but don't think twice about all the other species on our planet.

How about a cooler idea? These "memories" are proto-memories (encoded in our DNA) from our ancestors going all the way to any of the branches of the Eukariotes? I think I love my idea.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I truly believe that a lot of people have had a former life.

I have very strong images of a former life and vivid images of a terrible experience in it, in that if there is any mention of in films and TV, I have to turn the Tv straight off as I find it very traumatic

I have always had these memories which I have never watched so know that they are not some subconscious images being reignited.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I grew up with family, friends and family friends who were/are into all kinds of esoteric stuff, including doing "past life regressions" and what not.

Personally, I always found it a bit eye-rolling. However, I also saw a story about a small boy who clearly remembered being someone else to the point where they traced the person who the little boy said he was.

Then I saw a documentary about people who had organ transplants and they started to craze favorite foods of the donor and other strange things. So, I wondered if maybe past lives couldn't be some sort of gene memory.

The problem with that is, of course, what happens when people remember parts of the someone else's life after they have children or that never had children?

There goes my doctorate thesis.

Final answer... I'll leave it to my crazy friends & family.

Here is the story:

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I witnessed several reincarnations here.....they may try to repress the old personality for a certain time but it eventually takes over and starts a new cycle again.

I am inclined to believe in the gene memory theory also.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I had never had memories about former life. I have heard though people tell your former life through palmistry and some other techniques which I never believed.

Re: Remembering Your Former Life

I always wondered about the maths; there are far more people in the world now so they probably could not all have past lives (I mean there were only so many Egyptian princesses, which seems to be a favourite) - unless several people share the same past life?

no reason to exclude animals/insects/vegetals for potential life host. It could explain why some people have the charisma of an oyster or a leek.

Maybe there are less animals now and the souls evolved.

I thought that is where this was going as well. But LiB is much too young for that sort of thing.... although this certainly wasn't a topic I'da thought he'd post.

Goes to show; Ya nevah knows.
