Wifi-ing an iMac

Yes, I know someone who wants to get two of those CRT day-glo iMacs onto her wireless router for her kids.

Would Airport cards be the best way or alternately what about the BELKIN F5D7050DE? From these people, it seems that's an option....

So I know we have Mac people here - what do you suggest?

Re: Wifi-ing an iMac

I've always used airport cards in both my desktops and laptops, no hassle with drivers and they work flawlessly.

Re: Wifi-ing an iMac

I am also not quite sure if the Macs are OSX or OS9. I think from a quick look that they're OSX-ed.

I found a dlink DWL-G122 claiming to be compatible. I also wonder - do these old neon wonders have USB 1.1 or 2.0 onboard?

Hi

They only have USB 1 and no firewire, also if they are running OSX on these machines then they will be very slow.

Re: Wifi-ing an iMac

looking here... www.dlink.com/products/?pid=334 the ** indicates that adaptor will work on 1.1 interface albeit more slowly. That's OK.

The Macs did seem reasonably slow and now I'm inclined to assume OS9 which this USB thing supports. I'll give that a go, I think.

Re: Wifi-ing an iMac

Think you need establish the operating system really and model of iMac as theer were several different ones out. My old one for example is one of the really old ones which wouldn't be capeable of running OSX but the later ones that came out just before they ceased making them may support OSX and may have USB 2 (not entirely sure on this)

Re: Wifi-ing an iMac

reporting back....

the iMacs were running Panther (10.3.x) and work perfectly with a dlink DWL-G122 using this driver package found on this page.
