Coming soon - head transplants

Seriously.

Lots of heads should be barred from transplantation.

I think the claim that this would be a 'first' is somewhat misleading. The evidence is below, and quite handsome fellow too . . .

I can't find the article now, but recently a scientist discovered how to stimulate nerves so they will grow back together, like bones. Without the stimulation the patient is often left paralysed after a back injury, and this guy, I think he was Italian, found the way to get even old damaged nerve endings growing back together again.

This could be a disaster though. Imagine the situation where your wife gets a new head, complete with old memory (Someone else's). Then every time you came home, she would scream and call the cops.

So which politicians are being lined up for this? They would be the first obvious candidates if it means they actually receive a brain

But you could have your old man head transferred to a beautiful lady's body .. And just stay home and play with yourself furiously ..

Is that a bit wrong?

Re: Coming soon - head transplants

Interesting piece of thinking....

If you transplant your head, will your (soul, spirit, mind, whatever you call it), be connected to the new body ?

(I know, it's a question for those who believe in it, not for the hard-wired-close-minded *scientists* of this forum)

Head transplants are almost certainly never going to happen.

What we are looking at here, ladies and gentlemen, is a very elaborate grant application for research which might make life a lot more pleasant for thousands of people with spinal injuries.

But dreams (and nightmares) of Frankenstein monsters are misplaced.

Makes for great headlines, though.

imo there is no future in head transplants, even were it possible with humans without the huge amount of work needed to get a body to not reject another, essentially genetically alien head. I think the future is in brain transplants, and one day we will see people cloning genetically perfect copies of their youthful bodies with all genetic imperfections removed, and then transplanting brains from the old body to the new. No genetic compatibility issues, and essentially a lifespan potentially many times that of a natural life before the brain or psyche started to deteriorate (which I think would be inevitable at some point).

The moment they work out how to download consciousness and memories electronically, essentially making a backup copy of a brain, then that would likely solve the brain tissue deterioration problem as you could have a fresh and healthy brain each time, and then achieve near-immortality. I guess that wouldn't stop you potentially going insane though in the long-term.

It's a scary thought.
