Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

At her last school, there was a policy that unless the whole class was included the party invites were either sent by post or slipped into the contact book. Obviously it didn't stop the children talking about ting ting's party the next day but it did obviate the distress caused to the leper child at the time. She will invite the little sod to her party and I will make sure the invitation is extremely special with bits of gold foil on it. Call me childish if you want

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

It is generous of you to invite the girl, not childish. Classic golden rule in practice! It is certainly tempting to react in the same way that the other mother has. Handling this by taking the high-road will stick in your daughter`s mind in years to come and she will be a better person because of it. And maybe the little brat will, too.

Yes, yes, yes, yes! Almost my exact experience for a surgery and hospital stay that was way way longer than necessary. And they put me under 3 times when once would have been sufficient, if they would have just done what they ended up doing in the first place.

When I tell you that morphine does nothing for my pain don't think the solution is to give me more morphine. And everything else you said.

And thanks for opening this up to anyone who needs a good rant!!! I was just thinking I need to get this off my chest...

I recently returned home from foot surgery here in CH and it was truly a horrid experience. I cannot completely compare the experience that I would have had `back home` but had I known it was going to be this miserable, I would have certainly reconsidered. So, here is my list of complaints peppered with some advice. If any of you can relay this information to the local hospitals in central Switzerland or to anyone else who has some influence, that would be marvelous!

1. Please do not offer me tea when I tell you I have pain. This only annoys the **** out of me and I am likely to become more irritable than I already am from the said pain.
2. If the doctor is not going to keep his appointment with me (which happened on three separate occasions), please let me know. I am already feeling a little nervous about the outcome of the surgery and since you cannot offer me any information on how I am doing, the least you can do is update me about when I will know.
3. Do not make me beg you for pain medication, argue with me about it, finally concede (in theory, though not actually) and then not return for 1.5 hours when the pain is so great that I wish I had brought something from my private stash.
4. If I tell you I am going to be sick to my stomach, which we all knows can happen after surgery, please do not tell me to wait and that you have to get the other nurse. Waiting is not an option. Just grab me the basket-now!
5. If I ask for an English-German interpreter, please do not respond by tell me that we are in central Switzerland and that I should speak German. I do speak German, however, when I continue to ask for something that is reasonable and you do not comply, it leads me to believe that I need an interpreter to better help me express myself.
6. Please make a note (on your hand?) that I do not speak Swiss-German or understand it very well. If you have been in my room 10 different times, and every single time I have said to you that I do not understand you when you speak in Swiss-German, rest assured that the 11th time I will not understand any better.
7. Do not insist that I stay in the hospital for 7 days for a surgery that many countries do on out-patient basis. Yes, I know. You think I will benefit from all of the medication you are making available to me. Please refer to numbers one and three.
8. When you are explaining the walking technique that I will have to use, please try to come up with a comparison that does not insult the ethnicity or culture of a land that you have never visited.
9. Please do not tell me that the amount of pain I have is the same as everyone else, it just affects me more. It makes me want to throw my tea at you.

Eeks! It sounds like you got some really special treatment!

The idea of returning to a hospital here at any point in the near future sorta makes me cringe.

Kantonsspital in Zug is moving soon to Cham. Maybe it will be better - currently it is a big wet bag of poo with exceptionally rude staff

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

Maybe the Kantonspital is dividing partially to Cham and partially to Baar? I say that because I know that in August 2008 a new hospital is opening in Baar and many of the Zug departments and faculty will move there. The facilities are going to be great, the bedside manner remains to be seen.

Oh, and now way off topic, there seems to be quite a debate about what will become of the old Zug hospital. Hotel, perhaps?

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

Actually you are correct. It is Baar and the site of the current one is to contain (amongst other things) a hotel and an assisted living facility - presumably sheltered housing for the elderly and infirm. I only know this because we got a thickish brochure in our box from the people who are developing it. With a stamp on it

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

I completely sympathise with what you say about your mother (though I hasten to add I'm not in the same boat), but nevertheless always remember that there will come a time when you regret that she can no longer annoy you like she does now.

I probably share many of the same thoughts that you have about your mother, with my mother-in law. However mine are stripped of any of the affection that yours carry, and probably veer a good deal more towards the extreme than yours do

As for the little French girl....ok she doesn't sing too good but what I really want to know is....what does she look like

To be honest Tim,

She's about 4ft and looks like an anorexic goat. She also has a voice which would have allowed her to have auditioned for a part in the original chipmunks.

Without the use of helium.

Still interested?

I wish I could still ring mine, her husband still has her message on the answering machine. I find myself counting the rings, if I'm in the mood I'll let it pick up, mostly I don't.

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

I am so sorry that your mum gets on your T**s but i really miss my mum, i don't speak to her as often now that she has learnt to email but i still really miss her..... i wish i could afford to call her more or see her more....

People not filling things up after they finish it get's to me too.....i hate it.....

I would start to sing with the office girl but in a really bad tone she might just take a hint.....

It's nearly mother's day here in switzerland and i do believe most of you love your mothers from the bottom of your hearts even if they are a pain, so think of them and what they have done over the years for you, if it wasn't for them you wouldn't be here and what you are today....

How much I love you I can't say:
It's more than words can hold.
You're all at once my rich, red clay,
My potter and my mold.
Yours the words that shaped my voice,
The spirit within mine.
Yours the will that shaped my choice,
My fortune, and my sign.

How lucky I was to have had you
At the core of me!
Wise and good, you always knew
Just what I could be.

And so I came to be someone
Whom I could be proud of.
For this I give my swollen sum
Of gratitude and love.

love you mum

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

Thank you so much for those words. It's coming up to my first Mothers day since my Mum died and she always loved having two, the English and the Swiss. I shall put those lovely words into the local newspaper on this coming mothers Day. I know it wont bring her any comfort but it will me.

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

My mama knows well how to use a computer....

She has 2 computers, I'm not kidding.

She is not working with, it is for pleasure. To create stikers, cards, pictures, name it! When I receive a card by mail from her, my name is always writed on computer with flowers, butterfly, bears... Oh, and this is with the kids stickers on the envelop as well.

She always forward me emails with video, diaporama, pictures, jokes of whatever she find funny, cute or discusting!

I tried once to tell her to not forward me those things... She gave me an attitude for weeks until I apologized to hurt her feelings.... And there came back the emails....

So I gave up, and just delete them.

2 years in France. My mother called me once, and then only to ask if I could put up my brother for a week.

P.S. Sandgounder got this thread right. It's someone letting off steam.

P.P.S. Old Hand has my sympathy, for I lost my mum some years ago, and it hurt. OH, if you need a shoulder to cry on, I will book the washing machine for the next week.

Re: Rant [about everything and about nothing]

I dug up this old thread because I'm in the mood for a rant and at present I have no one to rant to.

I absolutely HATE the 1% of men in the world who (for reasons completely beyond my comprehension) think it's a great idea to ogle, make catcalls at, and otherwise harass women. I just got back from a one-hour bike ride, and on four separate occasions guys went out of their way to yell, whistle, call me names, etc. One guy in the passenger seat went so far as to hang out of his window when stopped at a red light, beckoning me over.

What do they think will happen, realistically? That I'll come running over to them, throw off my clothes, and immediately have wild sex with them? Or at the very least, swoon at their feet and pledge my undying love and devotion? Give me a break. I don't find it flattering and I certainly don't find it enjoyable. I find it demeaning and embarrassing.

I know I shouldn't let this bother me (and let's be realistic, for these guys it's probably as close as they'll get to action all year anyway) but it still really gets my back up.

Rant over.

Heather
