Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

Dear all

I am making a presentation about the debt situation in Argentina and thought to make an...impactful...opening by either a quote or joke about Argentina. It can be about the beauty of the country, Argentinian humor, and some harmless joke about Argentinian...if you know anything?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I would not recommend any jokes in your presentation on such a serious subject.

Remember what happened to Top Gear? They are a very proud country, so be careful!

Thanks Sbrinz for your advice. Yes, I am aware of that. I am actually looking more for an inspiring quote, if any, about the resilience of the people or how they look at the issue. I would be careful not to hurt any feeling. Thanks for the reminder.

An Argentinian asks his son "So, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

"A foreigner".

Re: Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

I actually found this
"Latins are tenderly enthusiastic. In Brazil they throw flowers at you. In Argentina they throw themselves. -- Marlene Dietrich"

Anyone knows the country well enough that can explain to me the meaning of this quote? Does it mean Argentinian are very easy-going and friendly?

Re: Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lol.. I've changed just a few words so it makes sense in English:

Cristina Kirchner and her driver were going down a country road, when because of the smoke from a fire, they regrettably ran into a dog, killing it instantly.

Cristina said to her driver to go to the farm in order to explain to the owner what had happened.

An hour later, she sees her driver arrive, stumbling, with a cigar in one hand and a bottle in the other, his clothes all disheveled.

"What happened?", she asked her driver, and he responded:

"Well, the farmer gave me the wine, his wife the cigar, and their beautiful daughter made passionate love to me."

" Oh my god, what did you tell them?"

" I told them: I'm the driver for Cristina Kirchner and I just killed the bitch!"

Best way to reduce Argentina's debt is for BP to manage the oil exploration in the Falklands.

Re: Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

Argentine jokes are all about their inflated egos. So... no. Not the best thing to start with in a presentation. And, yes, it was in fact in Argentina that I learned this. I guess it's the same idea as "I can call my mother fat, but you can't".

What is the best business to get into?
To buy an Argentinian for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth.

What is an ego?
It’s the little Argentine we all have in us.

How do Argentines start their love letters?
"I know you miss me..."

Che, do NOT use these in your presentation!

PS, I LOVED living in Argentina and I did not find the Argentines all that egotistical. Really.

Re: Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

I've never heard Argentinos making fun of the Argentinian ego - they mostly make fun of Paraguayos, while they have such disdain for Chileans that they don't like to mention them, even in jest. (Border disputes were still going on in parts of Patagonia until a few years ago, and Argentinians will never forget that Chile subversively aided England during the Falklands/Malvinas war). The people of Buenos Aires - Porteños - are looked down upon by the rest of the country as being snobby and arrogant. Porteños are sometimes condescending/racist towards people from other areas, especially Salta.

Anyway, most Argentinians are proud, friendly, down to earth, and above all passionate about life. In this context, adrianlondon's joke doesn't make sense at all...

They don't really joke about the debt. The last crash of the economy is still fresh in everyone's minds, and the possibility of it happening again is not a laughing matter.

They don't even joke that much about the government, which is considered completely corrupt by most.

just my experience...

Re: Anyone has a good quote about Argentina?

An Argentinian fighter pilot had shot all of his missiles, and his wingman asked what he'd do now if he found a new target?

- "Don't worry," he said, "I've got an extra set."
