Yours is no disgrace

It is a song title from YES, can somebody please bring me closer to how this song title has to be understood? Translating results do not make any sense. Thank you :-)

You mean that you would like to see an analysis of the deeper meaning behind this drivel?:

YES LYRICS
"Yours Is No Disgrace"

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no disgrace.

Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far,
Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are.

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no,
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.

Death defying, mutilated armies scatter the earth,
Crawling out of dirty holes, their morals, their morals disappear.

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no,
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.

It was written in the early 70's - don't expect it to make sense ..... nothing did in the days of Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

In terms of English, I would guess that it has an equivalent meaning of:

'there is no disgrace in your actions (in what you have done)'

Thank you me.anon and TiMow,
good feedback. I know the lyrics, but wih the wiki article it makes a little more sense. Many times Europeans have problems to correctly understand song titles and lyrics, because the complete US background is missing.

Bruce Spingsteen in Tonight in Jungle Land uses the phrase "Local cops cherry tops". No european understands, but I guess every US citizen knows well.

Thank you, have a good week!

YES are/were a British band, so having any kind of US background knowledge wouldn't be of much use to you if you want to understand the lyrics.
As they say, you had to be there.

The title simply means - crap things happen and there's no disgrace in it, so the crap thing that happened to you is also no disgrace.

"You don't know man ....."

£.s.d. was still prevalent and in regular use, at least until 1971 - when the album containing this title was released.

If you think that rock bands stopped going on road trips, just because the 60's turned into the 70's, I'd be very much surprised.

P.S. The Beatles track reference was for indication purposes, only.

I often used to see Rick Wakeman shopping in Camberley - but Yes had long disbanded, by then.

I quickly gave up trying to understand Jon Anderson`s somewhat pretentious lyrics. I was a bit of a Yes fan for several years and don`t really mind admitting it - You may find this link a little helpful in delving deeper: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=3468

Thx for the link. I can't follow some of their synapse trails either, but I also like some of their music.

Shoot High, Aim Low. War, Nicaragua? WTF?

We hit the blue fields
In the blue sedan we didn't get much further
Just as the sun was rising in the mist
We were all alone we didn't need much more

So fast this expidition
So vast this heavy load
With a touch of luck and a sense of need
Seeing the guns and their faces
We look around the open shore
Waiting for something

Shoot high break low
Aim high shoot low
Break high let go
Shoot high aim low

This was to be our last ride
With the steel guitar and the love you give me
Underneath the skin a feeling, a breakdown
Well we sat for hours on the crimson sand

Exchanges in the currency of humans bought and sold
And the leaders seem to lose control

Shall we lose ourselves for a reason
Shall we burn ourselves for the answer
Have we found the place that we're looking for
Someone shouted "open the door"
Lookout

Shoot high break low
Aim high shoot low
Feeling of imagination
Break high let go
Shoot high aim low

Shoot high aim low
Nothing you can say
Shoot high let go
Takes me by surprise

Shoot high aim low
Who says's there's got to be a reason
Shoot high let go
Who says there's got to be an answer

We were all alone, we didn't need much more
Shoot high aim low
The sun's so hard on this endless highway
Shoot high let go
Shoot high aim low
I've heard the singers, who sing of love
Shoot high let go
In the blue sedan we never got much further
Shoot high aim low

Re: Yours is no disgrace

lol . . . difficult to begin with those lyrics . . .perhaps this extract from Wikipedia might explain why -

The song, according to John Anderson`s announcements on many shows of the tour, is about war; specifically, a future in which mankind will live beyond war. In most of these announcements, Anderson explains that the "blue fields" mentioned in the first line are in Nicaragua. At the time the album was being worked on, a legal battle between the ES and Nicaragua had occurred over U.S. aid to anti-government guerrillas.
Anderson also explains on some occasions that Trevor Rabin, who performs lead vocals on the song (alternating with Anderson) is singing in `dreamtime`, while Anderson is singing in real time.

YES are still touring! Three of the 'regular' member are part of the tour. Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman are, at the moment, going there separate ways. Saw 'em in Zürri a shot time back. Recommend to all!

'av a pleasant extra Sunday y'all

Funny ..... updated take-off of the classic A&C 'Who's on First' - which lo and behold, appeared when the above video finished.

Saw them at several festivals and other places in the early-mid 70s, mostly because I loved Rick Wakeman and that amazing hair.
Still play his concept album 'Six wives of Henry the VIII' a lot, mostly to confuse the neighbours.
Don't have any Yes albums these days (ex insisted they were his), rather tempted to replace them now!

I preferred Rick as a solo act (although I never really heard much Yes - a couple of mates were into them and ELP and the like, but I wasn't too bovver'd).

Apart from pushing a trolley round Sainsburys, I did get to see RW performing a set at a local venue, for 'Whispering Bob' and his OGWT - predominantly Journey to the Centre of the Earth, if I recall, correctly.

Nearly 40 yrs. later, I've just googled and found that I can buy a DVD/CD of the concert, and look if I can see a mini-me in the audience.

Out of curiosity I've just been listening to a couple of my old Hawkwind and Van der Graaf Generator LPs.
Whatever was I on back then?!
