Chicago O'Hare to East Wacker Drive

I got to get down town Chicago from O'Hare to East Wacker, sometime around 09.00-10.00 hrs in early July (not 4th). What recommendations do people who know about such things ?

What does a taxi cost, any ideas ?

Tks your assistance

Re: Chicago O'Hare to East Wacker Drive

Should take about 45 minutes. I always plan on an hour, my husband who likes to live dangerously (and knows the meeting can't start without him ) plans for 30 minutes.

It's been a few years since I last took a Chicago cab, but IIRC expect to pay in the $40 range. Standing in traffic time is charged. Remember that one tips a cab driver in Chicago, ca 15%.

(Hopefully someone with more recent taxi fare experience will come along.)

---

FYI, the Taste Of Chicago festival will be 8-12 July in Grant Park. If you are in downtown Chicago during this time, this is relevant for two reasons:

You might want to stop and enjoy the fun.

Traffic could be heavier than normal.

Lucky you getting to visit one of the most fantastic cities in the world! I had the great pleasure of living there for six months - still have fond memories of the place.

Another O'Hare tip:

There is a new (ish) immigration line for passengers with carry-on luggage only. You'll see a sign before you arrive at the regular immigration hall. This line allows you to bypass the normal queues, you zip through quickly, cutting significant time out of the O'Hare arrival fol-de-rol.

No self respecting Chicagoan would ever use ketchup on a Chicago Dog. Mayor Daley would have you arrested.

Re: Chicago O'Hare to East Wacker Drive

a cab will run you between 40-60 bucks, depending on traffic. you will not have any problem finding a cab pretty much no matter where you go.

the train is a great option and is dirt cheap, but Chicago trains are not like Swiss trains in terms of cleanliness or punctuality. it will likely be pretty hot in the city that time of year, too, so doing a bunch of walking to and from stations while hauling luggage may not be much fun (if you have luggage to carry).

I'm jealous, it's a great time of year to be in the city.

Flew into O'hare yesterday, and the carry-on only line wasn't open. First time in the 6 flights I've taken flights this year. Still breezed through immigration, as we were ahead of the other flights arriving at the same time. Out in ca 15 minutes from landing, thanks to the kiosks. (US citizen) But had we been caught in the crush of arrivals, it could have been a long wait.

So maybe you should plan for the usual arrival mess, even with carry on only, just to be safe.

Re: Chicago O'Hare to East Wacker Drive

If you like coming into Chicago in slo-mo then cab.
If you like coming in as a sardine but passing down the middle of many lanes of slow-moving vehicle including the cab you could have taken.....take the train.

You're headed to Wacker, is the company paying? Where are you staying? And will you be looking up Marilyn's skirt?
