If there's one thing that I regret ......

I was thinking the same. Esp. back in the day when getting in without a ticket was a right of passage.

I kinda always felt that I would do it later. Now I guess I'm too old for it. Maybe burning man instead.

Re: If there's one thing that I regret ......

Me three...or any other big festival back in the days before monied camping and "going to a festival" featured in the travel section of my weekend paper as a "what to do this summer" option. There are SO many festivals now, I think finding one with any character and a desirable lineup is a feat in itself

(Good friend's daughter at Glastonbury this weekend...but her dad is manager for The Who so suspect she doesn't have the same raw and wild adventure)

Fortunately I have 2 kids who still think that I am slightly cool enough to go to Glastonbury with them and we went 2 year ago (2013) when the Stones were there. Fantastic weather and for me a memorable few days.

Although as you get older, you know for sure, that one thing needs to get better ..... Port-a-loo technology

Re: If there's one thing that I regret ......

We tried getting tickets to quite a few festivals, and it was near impossible. The whole thing is now for rich kids . So a couple of years ago, we decided that those festivals were not for us.

My biggest regret though was not seeing Ane Brun when she performed in London 7 years ago, as I was heavily pregnant and the gig was standing only! We had the tickets in hand, but at the last minute I had to make the decision that I could not go. Now if ever you guys hear she is performing somewhere, do let me know.

The OH went to Burning Man last year, she is hammering on at me that I have to go there.

My biggest musical regret is not going to see Rainbow in '95 when I had the chance <kicks self again>

Re: If there's one thing that I regret ......

I was desperate to go to an Osmonds concert in Manchester when I was about 14, but my parents wouldn't let me. I cried for a whole weekend.

Does that count?

Richie's also been sad since you've been gone - in fact he still thinks about it .... I heard him say, just the other day: "Still I'm sad", when I last saw the man on the silver mountain.

Re: If there's one thing that I regret ......

Meh. I went in '91 or '92, and it was an interesting experience (standing on top of a hill next to a metal dragon, looking across at acres and acres of tents like some kind of fantasy battleground), but as festivals go it was far from being the best. I must admit that my memories are somewhat sullied by a graphic recollection of falling into the River of Piss with a rucksack on my back.

I always found Cropredy a much more pleasant experience. Proper hippies there, and a good cooked breakfast at the Rowing Club.

Its never to late, just difficult to get tickets these days. I have a lot of friends there this weekend, but they are all working, I guess they will probably remember this one.

Lightweights....

I was at all three of the Free Festivals in Windsor Great Park, 1972-74;
http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/windsor-menu.html
and one of my best memories is seeing Hawkwind at one of them; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gB9O0bJC2w

Then moved on to Watchfield in 1975;
http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/watch...ival-menu.html

Also attended several in Swindon during the same period.... where the authorities used to pull the plug on the stroke of 11pm and people would just settle down in their sleeping bags wherever they could find a space until morning.

Made the mistake of getting married in 1976 (not to the boy I was with during my hippie phase) and my festival days were sadly over. Sniff.

Hihi- am I a legend then what a desperate fall-from isle of Wight Legend to EF legend - meh, bah, doh...

Well, the Isle of Wight 1970 was just amazing, especially for a kid like me, from a small village in the Swiss Jura. Last performance ever by Jimi- and of course the Who, Stones, and Jethro Tull, Procol Harum- but also Joan Baez, Leonard Cohen (Suzanne is still so haunting today), Dylan, and so many more.

And none of this tent on the hill luxury- right in the middle about 30m from stage- just a blanket and nothing more.

Portaloo technology? I wish... cloth tents with a big hole and a plank across- and by the last day they were full to the brim- oh yeah. Well there was 600.000 of us- that's a lot of poo... Hitched hiked back to London with 1000s lining the road- and never made it to work the next day... after nearly 5 days without sleep (and NO drugs for me either). 45 years in August- can't believe it.

Anybody else on EF was there? Probably not.

Didn't quite make it to the Isle of Wight, I couldn't get the time off school!
But the rest of it applies, no loos, no tents, no food more often than not.
Glastonbury with it's Glamping, restaurants and posh toilets is an entirely different world. Not to mention the absurd ticket prices..... might as well stay at home with the chilled Chardonnay and watch it all on the beeb.

Re: If there's one thing that I regret ......

I watched the Lionel Ritchie concert last night on the Beeb. It was great, he sang all the songs.

But must admit, i would not have liked to have been in that crowd!! After three days of sweat and no showers.... Unless, of course, i could go Glamping for the cheap price of 6,000 squid (not including tickets to the venue).

Don't worry, Folks. You can always go and see Robbie in Nyon next month!!
