Vacations in Albania, anyone?

Is anyone planning on spending holidays in Albania? I will leave for Albania next week I guess. If you need any advise I would be glad to help. Also, if you need a guide there I could help you find the best places.

Is anyone planning on spending holidays not in Albania? That's too bad.

If you are uncertain on whether you should visit Albania for different reasons I hope I can clear your thoughts.

Peace

Re: Vacations in Albania, anyone?

I flew up-country from Tirana in a helicopter about 10 years ago. The country looked beautiful from above, and I would like to visit someday.

I would take Liam Neeson with me for "good luck".

Or hitch up with half of the Swiss Nati off to their Heimat.

Most of my friends have already visited Albania for a vacation. Good impressions, seems to me as it is an unexplored great piece of land in Europe It is on the to do list

I would rate the first movie 5.8/10, where I give points for good picture quality, great action, outstanding acting performance, special effects etc., but remove points for the story and the way they disfigure the image of Albanians, which is preposterous. And it is all downhill from there with the following movies.

I hope you don't believe everything you see in movies.

It is really beautiful, whether you like mountains, hiking, biking, canyons, beaches, nightlife, restaurants, you name it.

Re: Vacations in Albania, anyone?

Last summer I stopped a few kilometers short of Albania - in Montenegro. We saw Albania at the other end of Lake Skadar. It looked great . From my cosy Swiss/French perspective, Albania has a great potential for bad things to happen (e.g. caught in the cross fire during an argument between neighbours ). Even if nothing bad happens 99% of the time. I'd still like to go, but without the hire car that we took on our Balkan trip.

Re: Vacations in Albania, anyone?

The problem i guess is roads, no car insurance (as a matter of fact on your private car green card you will see albania crossed out), dangerous driving (no one drove cars before 1990 if i'm not mistaken?). Also better be a Rega contributor.
I think everyone knows that exported albanian mafia is not the reality, although when you hear some stuff like kanun code it does seem like sicily 100 years ago, but for tourists a strict honour code is only beneficial i guess lol

Re: Vacations in Albania, anyone?

I spend time in the balkans each year, last year we were 3 weeks in Albania. Only issue was kids throwing stones but otherwise fine. Roads. .. well yes a main road might actually be a dirt track but lots of EU funding is changing that.

I have other ways of "clearing my thoughts"

Funny. Most of the countries advertising on BBC (I accidentaly left BBC on after I watched the weather, silly me) end up in civil wars, the bankers hand them a financial crisis or there are terrorist issues.

The latest advertisements are for Albania and another country that we are all "not allowed" to mention in a bad light, ever.

Albania could be a great place to visit, after I talk to someone I trust who has been there.
