Are you a haha, hehe, emoji or lol type?

Funny study by facebook on the type of e-laughter by gender, geography and age. Female more likely to use emojis and lol is definetely a has-been thing. In a week, 85% have less than 5 laughters....quite sad

Re: Are you a haha, hehe, emoji or lol type?

I had to google emoji recently, I felt very old and out of the loop.

I've always been more of an honest person with cqtm (chuckling quietly to myself)

Re: Are you a haha, hehe, emoji or lol type?

Emoji all the way, and I'm sure I've suggested on here that someone puts it on! You know, the crying laughing one, we really need that emoji on EF! The lack of emoji is what has forced me on occasion to write haha or lol, and I am not so keen on lol any more at all. My mum uses it a lot (she's 62) although she is starting to replace with emoji. I love emoji, please can we also have the kissing one and the heart eyes, I use the heart eyes as much as the crying laughing one. It's frustrating not being able to express myself wholly on here *insert crying laughing emoji*

How did Shakespeare and Dickens manage?

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's

Re: Are you a haha, hehe, emoji or lol type?

Way back in the early 70s I lost a good friend who stupidly took one of those LSD tabs from a sheet of blotting paper printed with that horrid yellow smiley.
Loath the things.

But I'm also not fond of ha ha, he he, or LOL, and certainly wouldn't ever use any of them; most people use them as an excuse to be nasty or rude and then pretend they weren't being serious because "look, I used an icon, that obviously means it was tongue in cheek".

Does that make me a dinosaur, a miserable so and so, or just educated?

I think you're still hurting from your friend's death so that makes your loathing understandable.

Personally, as long as they aren't over done, I quite like seeing a happy yellow face being sent to me. It's like a tiny ray of sunshine is being sent through cyber space.

Yeah, even I admit that was pretty corny.

I love a smiley or a frowny. I'm still finding my way on the internet and I'm usually years behind. I don't care though because I'm enjoying myself.

I completely disagree; I think it's the opposite, they are there to mitigate how text can sometimes be taken the wrong way due to lack of tone and body language. It's in lieu of facial expressions. A sentence that might look cold written down but would not sound cold if spoken needs a smiley to show that the person is smiling when they are speaking/typing. For example, normally I would have added a smiley face here to show that while I disagree I am not trying to be argumentative. It would never have crossed my mind that for some people the symbol might be a painful visual reminder of something so tragic as your experience. I'm very sorry for your loss. x

Re: Are you a haha, hehe, emoji or lol type?

I don't mind these simple emoticons. But now, there is a whole bunch of them. For everything. I find it quite painful reading some of the text messages from the younger crowd, despite being in my 30s. Partly it's a generational thing, partly it's to do with the laziness - why write a text message properly, if you can add Rofl, a flower, a burger, or whatever to make it pretty?
