Sutter! What a frightening thing to have happen! Hope everyone on board the plane is alright and no one suffered any injuries. Have you made it home or are you still stuck in the UK?

This happened to me once... I mean twice! We touched down then took off again. Then we did it AGAIN! It was only on the third try did we actually land.

It was scary! For some reason I got into my head that planes NEVER land successfully on the third try and I was sure we were going to crash.

It was the same issue. Too much wind.

Was it actually on fire? The fire service will go out to aircraft with problems on landing even if not on fire. Did you have to evacuate?

Re: Tell me yours I will share mine

My worst one was landing at Lystrup from Copenhagen in a ATR 42. It was windy……….! The plane was all over the place, first attempt, missed the runway by a mile, it simply got blown away, second attempt, the wingtip touched the runway in a shower of sparks, the pilot opened the taps and we were away again: "Ladies and gentleman as you have noticed we are having slight difficulties in landing at lystrup, I will make one more attempt and if we still cannot land then we will fly back to Copenhagen, thank you for your attention."
He did manage to, well let's call it "land" although I'd call it a controlled crash were everybody walked away.
And as you know every landing where you can walk away is a good landing.

Re: Tell me yours I will share mine

We were flying back to the UK a couple of months ago to London City Airport when we seemed to cross the channel a few times - as we have done this route loads of time, you get to know that it won't be long until landing. About 10mins passed and the Captain announced that we had a "little" problem and were unable to land at City. This was because the runway is not very long.

We were told that we were diverted to Stansted and as we approached there were a row of fire engines beside the runway.

When we touched down the thrusters that normally make the plane slow right down did not seem to be operational, and it took an awful long time till we stopped.

City is notorious for spectacular landings especially if it is windy, there is a landing on You Tube that a friend of mine was actually on and they will never land there again!!

Re: Tell me yours I will share mine

My first ever flight was in 1977 to Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport, not very long after the worst ever aircraft accident. 583 people died when two Jumbo Jets collided on the runway.

Seeing the burnt out remains of the planes at the side of the runway, it is a wonder that I ever flew again. Apart from the flight back home, it was actually 28 years before I flew again, not because of this, just never felt the need or had the money.

I wish, but no, I was the girl who jumped to the roof of the plane when it got hit. It felt like it was about to explode, we were flying in the dark (winter in Norway tends to involve lots of darkness) and the flash was truly impressive.

The pilot made an announcement like "euh...not to worry, we were just hit by lightening". Almost no one spoke for the remaning flight time, until we were on the ground.

Scary AND cool at once.

Smallish 4 engined plane I guess?? If so they don't have thrust reversers.
