This young woman from Indonesia is attempting to break a record on the longest distance traveled on a modified scooter by a physically challenged person.
I was introduced to her (online) through a friend and as I got to know her over the years, I was really amazed by her dedication to helping kids and women, as well as raising awareness of some issues in her community, like environmental destruction. She told me that embarking on the trip was not an easy thing to do, because in her community, women are expected to get married and stay at home. Being disabled only added to the stigma she was already facing when she told her parents and siblings she was going away. The fact that she is traveling by herself despite all these challenges and despite having post polio syndrome (meaning she cannot walk much except for very short distances) is very empowering to me and I truly hope she can complete the journey. She has gotten into some accidents due to her handicap and the poor safety conditions on the road, yet none of these things have stopped her. It really makes all my problems seem small when I read about her updates. Initially I've been helping her with editing/translating for her blog but she improved her English remarkably fast. She is now writing everything on her own. Her blog is http://www.limitedwithoutlimits.com/
If anyone wants to donate or leave comments and well wishes on her blog/FB, she would really appreciate it. Thanks
