Air France bosses attacked in jobs protest

I have been in the commercial airline business for almost 35 years now. Over the years, the airline employees have been squeezed dry. They have also had to pay for their management's mistakes many times. I know it is France but will the others start retaliating this way?

Frankly, I hope they throw every one of them in prison for assault. While strikes are an annoying part of French life, when they degrade into physical violence, they've gone too far. They should throw the book at them, and if the unions know what's good for them, they should stand behind management in prosecuting the trouble-makers.

Re: Air France bosses attacked in jobs protest

I ca see both sides of this.

I don't want to condone violence, and especially in a situation like this it is achieving absolutely nothing and probably backfiring in a very bad way for those who did it.

On the other hand, from the point of view of grabbing headlines, its pretty smart. People don't get angry like this for no reason and good leadership with people skills wouldn't have allowed this to escalate this far in the first place.

If this leads to people condemning and boycotting Air France, it has achieved something.

Some voices in the French world speak about a deliberate tactics from leadership to provoque escalation. Air France is desperate to decrediblilize the unions. They are trying that but also behind the scene try to divide the employees to rule. It's all about throwing all branch agreements (conventions collectives) to the trash. They will try again another time if the pilots can prevent a legal text to be burnt unilaterally for the sake of profit maximization. Some say the profits must grow to keep the company alive, others say the profits can be used to more than share holder petting. I too can see both sides: it's a usual "Thatcher vs. Humans"-situation, metaphorically speaking.
