The sun doesn't shine for all

A hot day here on Malta the sun is bright, the sky is blue the water is warm but sadly the sun doesn't shine for all. After a long and uneven battle with terminal cancer my Brother has at last finally succumbed.
Not yet 51 he leaves behind three children, now orphaned, their mother died two years ago.
Somehow all the petty little troubles that plagues one day to day don't seem too bad after all.

Re: The sun doesn't shine for all

Sincere sympathies. Who will look after the children now? It puts the difficulty, sometimes hard to define to those who have not experienced it, of being an expat to the core.

It puts all the "First World Problem" thread into perspective, indeed.

All the best in these difficult times. I hope you are surrounded by friends and family who can support you.

Re: The sun doesn't shine for all

My condolences to you and your family. For children to experience such loss at such a young age, it must be dreadful.

I hope the children will be able to overcome their loss and sadness in time, and have a family to go to.

Re: The sun doesn't shine for all

Slammer,
I'm so sorry for your loss. 51 is far too young. For the children to be now orphans is terrible too, I hope you will be able to be a guiding light for them. I'm sure your brother knew you would be there for them as much as you can.

In India, when someone dies, they say a Pujah (not sure of the spelling). It's a three day period basically, during which people think of/pray for the person's soul. It's a way of celebrating their life too. They believe that the soul does not depart immediately, but rather lingers a while to say goodbye to loved ones.

I don't know about you, but I find that comforting. So perhaps you could light a candle tonight, or look out over the sea today, and take some solace in the fact that your brother existed, left a legacy in the form of his children, and no doubt many good memories.

My condolences.

Re: The sun doesn't shine for all

Thanks for the kind words all, At the moment the kids are at home with the grandma who lived in the same house.
However as she is getting to be 80 so social services have decreed that she can't look after them and have decided to take the kids and send them to other families.
As a small condolence they have stated that they will try and keep them together.
Sucks all around.

One of those threads where a "Deeply moved" button would be much more useful than a "Groan" button.

That is really horrible and sad.
Hopefully, you can keep in contact with them.

And your thoughts?

Anyway we can help, then please don't hesitate. I think that there are some good open ears / qualified advice / shoulders to lean on / folks to talk to (mostly on PM) if it would help. You'd be amazed that there are really trustworthy people out here.
