Indian Passport Renewal Time Period...

Hello all,

My Indian passport in expiring July 2016. I have applied for passport renewal last month (on 20th May 2016). Now its 6 week, but I did not received my passport yet. When I call to embassy, they always give me 1 reply - When we will receive it, we will send it to you.

I have to apply for a US business visa ASAP.

Has anybody been in the same situation before? Whats maximum time they take passport renewal? Is there any way to track your application?

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

- Raaaj.

Re: Indian Passport Renewal Time Period...

How does that relate to anything Swiss? It's not about a Swiss permit, not about a Swiss passport, so I highly doubt anyone will be able to tell you how long the renewal of your Indian passport will take.

Aside from that, you got your answer: it takes however long it takes, once it's done, you'll get it. They obviously have no interest in expediting the renewal for you or go out of their way to give you another answer, because they probably have none. If you need a business visa, why don't you call and explain that. It may or may not help.

I assume you mean the Indian Embassy in Bern... And it doesn't really matter. It still has nothing to do with Switzerland (Swiss would be the airline) or Swiss permits/passports.

Also, since you apparently couldn't be bothered yourself, here:
Quote:
Application fresh Passport/Renewal
Passports shall be printed in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and couriered to this Embassy between 4 and 6 weeks since the submission of the application and subject to verification of personal record for dispatch to the applicants. Those who want to keep their passports during this processing period, can keep but have to submit the old passport for cancellation at the time of delivery of new passport.
http://indembassybern.ch/eoi.php?id=...ine%20readable

5.5 weeks have passed, so wait until the end of the week and, again, call them to explain your situation.

No one here will be able to tell you anything other than this.

Re: Indian Passport Renewal Time Period...

I guess the OP is asking in case some other EFers happen to be from India and perhaps went through the same process.

OP, why don't you call the embassy? I guess it could take months, depending on how bureaucratic your country is. (I wouldn't know)

Re: Indian Passport Renewal Time Period...

For my wife it took 4 weeks. Problem is that they send application to Delhi, then delhi send new passport to Bern. They don't print it locally and there is no online tracking system.

Surely in your journey to being Forum Veteran you would have seen countless similar queries on UK passport renewal times/process. Let this one about Indian passport renewal go in the same ignore list, if you don't have any experience to suggest.

Yes sure that's why, but as it says very clearly on the website, 4-6 weeks. That's more information on timelines than you can get for pretty much any Swiss permit or passport. The website also outlines the process (application -> New Delhi -> return to embassy in CH). OP also apparently called multiple times.

Therefore I'm not quite sure how 15 randoms commenting here that it took 3, 5, or 9 weeks in their case would be helpful in any way.
As long as the timeline provided by official sources has not expired, why bother? Anyone will just keep saying "4-6 weeks", so it doesn't matter how long it took with others.

So as said, esp. now that the maximum duration acc. to their website is coming up, easiest to just call again and explain that the passport is needed due to some upcoming business trip. That will likely lead to much more success. OP has no choice than to do that anyway as he clearly can't take that trip without his passport.

And that comment was helpful how? At least I bothered to google and provide a link with some information

I indeed wanted to help, but I simply fail to see how "experiences" would be useful, especially since the timelines are publicly availble (whole different story if they are not!). It would help OP in no way to know that e.g. 10 people here only waited 4 weeks to get their new passport, when in his case, 5 weeks have already expired, yet the maximum processing time, according to official sources, has not yet been reached. What good does that do? That's just a "ok, duly noted, *panicpanic* and now what" - and that "what" would continue to be to a) look at official timelines and b) just talk to the embassy/authorities.

I would have if the newbie was not being made to feel unwelcome in asking a question that is a usual question.

Re: Indian Passport Renewal Time Period...

I think it is a very valid question in the very right section of this very nice informative forum used by many English speaking persons in Switzerland and from aboard.

I groaned and thank the follwing post. Indian Passport Renewal Time Period... Unfortunatly, the forum software does not really reflect this.

A quick survey of other peoples experience is certainly helpfull. If everybody says it is not less than 12 weeks you have a pointer that the Indian's embassy website is wrong.

I think the Indian embassy is stating what it's probably the legal term, in reality bureaucracy can take longer.
So yeah, an ad hoc survey would be useful because OP sounded desperate - needs the new one asap for USA visa.
Fingers crossed, OP.

Just the way Brexit does. Or do Brits on EF enjoy special privileges?

Forecast an 08 weeks period.
Check with them if it comes earlier.
At times the system is not updated but they have physical custody of the passport. You can then go and collect if that is an option you opted for.
Note that you will have to spend a ton of time calling them up as no one wants to pick up the phone.

Got my two kids passports renewed via Berne.

Don't know about max - the kids case took nearly 2 months - so 8 weeks seems a fair guess.

Why don't you try tweeting to MEA Sushma Swaraj giving ref numbers etc and requesting an update - nothing to loose.
