Do you think this picture is prejudice?

so this picture popped up on my Newsfeed on FB. I strongly feel that it is awful stereotyping and prejudice. I asked the poster if he didnt think it was a bit prejudice, which then caused an avalanche of comments ect. ect.

What do you think?

No. I see neither prejudice or stereotyping. If it said something about fried chicken or water melon, I would think differently.

How much more information do you need/want? Name and address?

Why do you need it?

To the OP: I think the picture is ill-conceived if good intentions were meant (whatever they might be).

There's no need for this hostility. It was a genuine question, is all.
It's simply that most stuff (links and pics) posted on the EF come with a mention of the source.

I missed the newsfeed bit, and I would have expected something like that to show up on a newsfeed with a source added.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Could just as easily be a pale-skinned Dane.

Re: Do you think this picture is prejudice?

IMO the picture makes no sense, as the written caption seems to indicate something that would be written in a text message, but the guy in the picture is talking on his phone.

I would not have even made it to the point of considering whether it is prejudiced since it makes no sense to begin with.

Man lies to the Sweetherat he's talking to on the phone.
OR:
Man listens to Sweetheart calling him, who may or may not be telling the truth.

And?

The text should read "Hon, I'm going to be late, I'm stuck in construction traffic, right behind a loader."

You used the imperative in demanding the source. I was replying in a similar manner.

I get your point, and could have phrased my question better. I agree that sometimes the people responding with a simple "Source?" come off as demanding.

Your response to my question came across as your going off at me for asking for a source rather than the way I asked, as in, a source not being the norm here on EF.

Anyway, end of ramble, I think we've got each others points now. Thanks for explaining

Yeah, the picture is playing on several stereotypes. Not sure I'd care enough to get into an argument about it, though.

Unless I had a lot of work to put off...

Re: Do you think this picture is prejudice?

I guess I was reacting to seeing one too many black South African jokes. You see, I dont think that South Africans would found it so funny if the man was a different race.

I dont have the stamina to argue about it, but I was so surprised at the backlash. So surprised that I had to ask my fellow EF members for their opinion, which is largely of a far higher standard.

People on FB don't like to be called out on stuff. FB lacks the joyful argumentative spirit that flows through EF and other similar forums.

I got permanently blocked for calling out an ultra-pc leftie friend who was perpetuating antisemitic stereotypes (he suggested that a Jewish politician resembled a vampire. Don't get me started!!). He was so used to people "liking" his comments and implicitly or explicitly agreeing with his position that he went through the roof when someone had the audacity to say, "um, actually, old chap..."

So it goes. People are twats. The same people can often be lovely.

That's humanity for you!
