The noise is ear-splitting. There are two Magpie's trying to chase off a cat just outside my window. They must be nesting near by. The cat has stretched it's self out and is looking decidedly bored but these two birds are just not giving up.

They are taking it in turns at dive bombing him, then landing and screeching at him with spread wings and they get courageously near. Apart from a bit of tail swishing the cat is just not impressed. This is the third time I've witnessed this scenario and it's quite impressive.

They are nasty buggers. I've only ever seen one pair, their manor is over near Oberwil and territorial doesn't even begin to cover it. When we lived in England, it seemed they were set for national domination. Every year a blackbird laid a nest in the hedge in our garden and every year a magpie came and ate the eggs. It was a bit difficult to see Mr and Mrs Black patiently building a house without intervening. Who's to say if they did build it somewhere else the black and white mafia wouldn't eat the eggs from the new location.

I'm ashamed to say this made me laugh a LOT.

The EM is over, the football-bar all packed away until WM 2010 (which will be a 30 year anniversary of such footy-festivities in the R/F). I fell into bed last night totally exhausted. Between the roar of cars racing up the Seestrasse, I suddenly become aware of a sound, long since not heard, one that I had almost forgotten. A flock of seagulls were having some sort of group discussion, probably aboot football, on the lake-side opposit me. What with the heat (and what-not) making me somewhat hazey, I spent the whole night dreaming of living on the beach back home. I could even smell the salt air............

Some idiot last night was waiting for his "girlfriend" and kept honking his car horn repeatedly at 2am. Woke up the whole neighborhood. If I had a slingshot I would have used it on his car.

Whatever hapened to those 'water bombs' the small balloons you fill with water and have about 20 prepared and when an annoying neighbour, magpie or random stranger passes by you can drop one.....

Dont think you can buy them here sounds as if I should set up a business for all the ex pats in swiss

The ones we used to use as kids are still available but now they have more than just water balloon usage. You can also get them in different sizes, and for some reason different flavours. And sometimes they're even ribbed for your targets pleasure
