Looked at this but was somewhat put off by the price - 55CHF.
55 nicker for the front end to a search engine?

Id definitely reccomend the ping application. Lets you text message free of charge direct to any I phone anywhere in the world. Instant messaging at its best

I started to use Ping, but then I dled WhatsApp. It's like Ping, but it's potentially better because it uses your phone number instead of having register a username.

yes it does do BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1 Extra. I would like to see an alarm feature added, since it already has the sleep feature, but you cant wake up to radio 1 as yet. More pics on the app http://twitpic.com/hxduy/full

Stanza for eBooks

I find Stanza pretty frustrating. It's ok for classics, but most of the new books I want to read are either not available as an ebook or available as an ebook only in USA.

I don't want a Kindle. I'm happy to read books on my iPhone as I prefer to carry fewer devices, only one in fact. However, there's a long way to go before books are as widely available (or as widely pirated) as music and video.

Re: iPhone application recommendations

For anyone who plays guitar (6, 12 string or bass) this app really rocks.

Guitar Toolkit

It has chord generators, tuners (all those exotic tunings), metronome and even all of the aforementioned for the ukelele, banjo, mandolin, 5 or 6 string bass.

11.-

This one creeped me out. Bad enough as it is to have this info online (IMO) but the possibility of tracing the woman who just cut you up in the traffic and calling whilst tailing her... I can see why so many Cantons have blocked this facility and it's now almost useless.

Would have come in handy for one of my friends last night who was victim to a psycho driver who tried to ram him off the road and dented all the back of his car... all because my friend "honked" at him for pulling out in front of him. There are some scary, scary people on the roads.

I agree though, having that info to hand is crazy... you should never be able to get home addresses so easily, it gives me the shivers.

Re: iPhone application recommendations

more on the Internet RadioBox from eingrad: listening to sky.fm (96kbps feed), you will use around 75Mb per hour.

If you're listening over 3G and actually get charged for data, this means that your data quota won't last long. 1Gb, for example - about 13 hours listening.

Thank goodness I don't care

Re: iPhone application recommendations

Anybody used the Swiss CarIndex, it allows you to search number plates and gives you the owners name address and sometimes phone numbers - not sure this would be allowed back in the UK.

nice, comprehensive answer. Ball into Apple's court.
Would a docking base with alarm be able to bring up the app? I think not as it has to be open in foreground....

You can do most of that via SMS for car numbers from the following Cantons: AI, AR, BE, FR, SG, SO, TG

Just send the plate details to 939 and Viola, you get a return SMS with the address details.

I think you can only do two a day.

Pocket Tunes (Radio) has introduced a record function, so you can record a radio station and replay at a later date on the iphone.

Dropbox looks promising, although I don't think our IT lot will allow such an installation.
I take this back. If you get DropboxPortable (Windows only), you synch a PC to your Dropbox account without installing anything. Fantastic.

Drop box looks good, pity on the iphone that the files have to downloaded when online. Is there a way of making them available offline. Great with sharing between home PC's and an internet explorer logon, so I can access stuff from work if needs be.

Mark the file as a favorite - it is then available off line
