Kindle doesn't quite have Stanza's functionality - you can't change the typeface and you can't dim the screen.
However, with Stanza it's only easy to read books in the public domain, such as old classics. I tried buying several copyrighted books online, only to be told that an online version of each book wasn't available in my territory. Very irritating.
The Kindle app seems to have solved that. So far I bought a couple of books off the amazon site without any problem. Kudos to amazon and not to ereader.com/fictionwise etc. for sorting out international rights issues for the books in their respective stores.
In summary, Stanza is better if you only want to read classics (for free). Kindleapp better if you don't have a USA credit card and want to read contemporary books, or if you have the Kindle hardware.

I had the Stanza app for a long time before I eventually sprung for a Kindle, and got frustrated for just those reasons.
I'm now a Kindle owner, and the Kindle app complements it really well. However it's also a perfect way in for anyone who doesn't own one yet but would still like to try out the service.

Shazam is truly amazing...have the free version but I think after tagging some number of songs you need to get the paid version.
POI Lite shows speed cameras actually by warning you about them coming up and also signals if you are going too fast...pretty cool.

Good enough for a laugh, not quite high-standing literature, though.

A possibly stupid question about the Kindle: if a book that I previously bought from Amazon in print form were to be available for the Kindle, can I get the Kindle version for free since I already bought the book from them, or must I buy the Kindle version separately?

I think it would be seen in the same way as if you wanted a second copy of the print version - two individual purchases.

For a FPS, try N.O.V.A., very impressive.
Photoshop.com is now available for the phone, not full featured of course, but allows you to crop and do various colour corrections.
Swiss airlines now has an app, not quite as good as it could be, but showing promise. Currently it quits the app and goes to safari to do things like online check-in and booking, if it did it all in one app it would be a fantastic travel aid.

Has anyone tried the "Settlers" game?
It s almost a perfect adaptation of the old PC game classic
Though wud have benefitted from a bigger screen, it still handles very well

I use SplashID to keep track of web logins, pin codes, membership and credit card numers and so on.
Works really well, but the day someone hacks into it and gets hold of everything - I'm toast!

The PSP suffered from the same problem because of the lack of a second analog stick, the problem is slightly different on the iphone, moving and looking works well, but you can't shoot and look at the same time.

We bought a slingbox last week and just downloaded the slingbox app for the iphone (a bit pricey at £17.99)
Anyway nifty bit of hardware kit and great app to run with it, highy recommend. Especially as you can log in and set your TV or Sky box in my case, to record remotely if you have forgotten to put a programme on record. You can also manage your recorded sky programmes via it too
I am well impressed innit |

Don't suppose there's any chance of this working for Swisscom TV?
Speaking of media-related apps. - Empire Magazine have released an app with ALL of their movie reviews stored on the device, with regular updates. I cannot recommend it enough.
