peter | | | | | That's the one, comes up as "CannonGame" on the iPhone screen.. Obviously "challenge" wouldn't fit.

WhitePages (free) is great for finding telephone numbers, addresses and names in the USA. It also does reverse phone (If you have an unknown number on your phone you can find out who it is and show on maps where they live.

| | | Re: iPhone application recommendations | Quote: | | | | | ok i unlocked my first gen iphone last night and got some apps.
shazam is amazing, it is voodoo black magic. basically, if a song is playing on the radio or television and you do not know who it is by, just open shazam and it listens to the song for 12 seconds then it can identify it. i was sceptical but it works beautifully.
secondly, the remote control app is also very clever, you can use it to control your itunes music from the iphone. seamless, and without hesitation. truly cool.
and both free. | | | | | Shazam is truely impressive. The remote is fantastic as well, though it's going to cost me another airport to get wireless music in every room.
I dowloaded a free compass which turned out to be absolute crud, it's more of a sundial, you have to stick your finger on the screen and judge the shadow, at least it was free.
The Facebook app works for me, but I still prefer using the website on the browser as it has more functions.
SBB timetable, brilliant.
Flashlight is another useful app.
I saw there was an English-German dictionary program to buy, anyone tried it, can you recommend it?

Yeah I forked out and I think its worth it. Its a very comprehensive dictionary and has all the verb conjugations. I don't use it continuously, but it is useful for the word you don't know when your out and about.
Just about worth 22 fr, I think.

I still use Palringo, as its features are enough for me due to not needing to be online that much when out and about.

You download the free WeDict application from the Apple App store and then download the dictionary files using Cydia (obviously the jail broken part).

You have to register with the site, and I think it took me one or two attempts to get it to work also.

Love the remote application, though it makes me wish the phone had an IR transmitter so I could control all my gizmos through it. That day may soon be near though, as a bunch of home automation apps were shown off at a show.

Fring has been released (for free) - allows you to chat using several protocols but also to place voice calls using your Skype account.
