The End of The World - What Would You do?

Inspired by the recent thread on the Hadron Collider thing, which i think we will all survive...I move on to an occasion I'm not so sure about....

1568 days left until the end of the world.

That's how some interpret the Mayan calendar. The Mayan's lived over a thousand years ago and are renowned for their remarkably accurate reading of time, even realising long before it was acknowledged by the supposedly more advanced European societies of the last five hundred years that it took a period equivalent to 365.25 days for the earth to travel around the sun. Here's how they separated time.....

They started their calendar way before they themselves were around and chose to end it in just four years time!

Quite what this will entail....who knows? There is, I beleive, some kind of planetary alignement due on 21 December 2012 - so it may well be that the magnetic poles are suddently and violently pulled out of their current abodes. Perhaps not the end of the world, but the end of a lot of it as we recognise it today.

You might attach some credibility to this or you might choose not to. the question that fascinates me is....what would you do if you only had four years to live?

I think we've all done the four minutes to live scenario, but I think it's strange to think of a situation where you might know the world has only four years left and deciding how you would spend them.

For my own part, I think I'd relax about wanting to complete all the great things I plan to do but haven't even really started! Such as writing books! I think I'd choose to spend out the rest of my days in the Cana Bar, Zurich listening to the sounds of an old DJ with the occasional foray to the Hotel Splendid for a good old singalong!!!

Go on a massive handbag shopping spree! Drink far more wine (if that is possible!) Go on more holidays! basically load up the credit card to the max and pray it's all over in 4 years!

Re: The End of The World - What Would You do?

But is our 12.12.12 the same as their's? Given the times our calanders have changed for example from Julian to Gregorian and the days that were lost or gained along the way who know when that version of the date actually falls (I'm sure someone does but it's way too complicated for me on a Friday night).

Good to hear from you Tim.

If I had 4 years left, tough one...If I were you, i'd start supporting a team that had a chance of winning something within that timeframe

I would steal a police traffic cone (and return it if the world didn't end). Something I've always wanted to do but worried I'd get caught.

Back to the main post .... to corroborate that you don't have long to decide what to do in your last moments.
According to St Malachy, there's only one Pope left after this one until......
