yet another food thread....food neuroses

so food is the hot topic, it's raining and i can't go out for a walk, so it got me thinking about food neuroses/quirks we all have.

One of my earliest childhood memories was of staying over at my friend Caroline's house. At the breakfast table we were eating marmite on toast. she spread the marmite first, then the butter. Suddenly her mum stood up and threw a fit! She screamed at her that she should always spread the butter first, then the marmite. i remember sitting there thinking...
"oh ....my.....god....." (we were like 6 years old, too)

also I can't have any savoury foods mixed with fruit
ie. raisins in curry
pineapple on pizza
chutneys etc

what are your food quirks?

Egg curry. I like eggs and I like curries but together , the thought of it makes me want to heave.

I love anything with chicken and I adore coconut . Several times I have been faced with them cooked together - and it makes me feel

I'm not a fussy eater but....

Tea: The milk cannot be added until the teabag is removed
Ketchup: Is tolerated with chips only, otherwise it has no place on the dinner table
Kit-Kats: The chocolate has to be nibbled off each finger thus exposing the wafer. Any other method of consumption is just plain wrong/suspicious

I'm with ya on the tea-thing; that deserves a whole thread of its own.

Re: yet another food thread....food neuroses

Honey! As a kid my mother made me drink hot milk with honey when we had a cold. She'd run a hot bath, then came the hmwh while I was sitting in the bathtub, then off to bed with Vicks Vaporub and a scratchy, itchy woolly jumper. I loathe honey to this day

I have even seen people treat the revered teabag like instant coffee. They'll put the teabag, cold milk and a spoon of sugar in a mug and then pour boiling water onto the sorry, soggy mess. These people need to be taken out!

There has been a heated debate in my kitchen if Mozzarella belongs on top of the pizza or if it is the first topping. Of course there can be only one answer...

What's up with eating carp? That's like eating crow or ravens. Bottom feeding fishes should not be eaten. It's just wrong.

Re: yet another food thread....food neuroses

The thing with tea irks me too, when you order tea in a cafe sometimes they bring you the hot water in a glass with the tea bag sitting oh so nicely on the saucer AGGHHH!! You then have to put the tea bag into water that is no longer boiling IMO this will NEVER make a good cup of tea!

I also have a thing with tomatoes. I cannot pick one up, touch it, cut it whatever. The seeds freak me out! Most of my family and friends even leave the tomatoes out of the salad and put them on a separate plate. Yet... I will eat tomato pasta sauce, tomato soup etc.
