Why I'm grateful for this Forum

In light of the recent thread by Lyn
The English Forum Todayand the debate generated on the subject of EF I’d like to add by way of this new thread (and not hijacking Lyn’s) what an enormous benefit the English forum has been for me. I arrived a couple of years ago here in Fribourg, well away from the hub of English speaking expats in Zurich, and found it difficult at first to find my way round. Thanks to the English forum here are just some of the ways that I have benefited in the last few years:

Found a badminton partner
Found several drinking partners
Ditto for coffee partners
Have been able to set up my satellite dish (freestat)
Have cheap telephone calls (Helvatel)
Cheaper car insurance
Discovered tips for day trips and travel
Great advice on buying a bike (thanks Chris W)
Cycling routes
Oh and recently 1 month free subscription to the Int Herald Tribune

Now I don’t know if that was the kind of thing that Mark hoped to achieve when he started all of this but it is certainly a forum and community that does offer help and tips for the expat here in CH and for that I thank all of the members who contribute in this way.
So lets hope that these behind the scenes issues can be resolved and that the forum continues to provide a platform for help and discussion for all.

Mods, I don't know where this belongs feel free to move it.

Hear! Hear!

And if you need any more coffee partners, plenty of English speakers in Duedingen!

Well said, Nickj and couldn't agree more as I have also been helped by the forum.
Interesting that few have bothered to post on this thread so far, but then it is always easier to criticise than praise!!

Re: Why I'm grateful for this Forum

The list is way to long, but needless to say I'm very gratefull for the EF. Some positivity won't go amiss around here, and maybe this is the springboard for it....hope so.

Re: Why I'm grateful for this Forum

well I am grateful for the forum, for all the amazing list of apartment seaching sites, and job sites. And for the language tandems, and for events to meet people. And a place to vent. It really is a great site.
