Where to go for Fish and Chips in London?

Hi People,

I am gonna take a day trip to London (fly out with the earliest flight, and return with the latest flight back). Can anyone recommend a place where I can get some really good authentic Fish and Chips? Would be great if it is within the central area....not so far out. If there are any other cafes or nice places that you would like to recommend, pls don't hesitate!!

FYI, I'm not from the U.K.

THE best place for Fish & Chips in London is a place on Endell Street in Covent Garden. I think it's on the corner with Shorts Gardens but get in the area and you'll be able to smell it. If the weather is nice they have some benches and tables on the pavement. They serve the real thing!

If you want a restaurant there is a good sea food chain, can't quite remember the name... but they have one again in Covent Garden, pretty sure it's on Bow Street at the Aldwych end. They also have one in China Town on Wardour Street. The restaurants are decorated with black & white tiles (or maybe green & white) the food is very good (for a chain) and it's not expensive.

I did see they sell them in Zurich BH now - anyone tried them?

just remembered another good F&C cafe in Soho in Brewer Street market. It's basic, but again the real thing.

Rock & Sole Plaice
London’s oldest surviving fish and chip shop was established in 1871 and is still bustling (though admittedly under different ownership). Tourists, luvvies, suits and trendies – no one cares when they’ve got chunky chips and crisply battered fish in front of them. Outdoor tables, strung around with coloured lights, come into their own on a balmy summer’s evening.
Rock & Sole Plaice, 47 Endell St, WC2H 9AJ (020 7836 3785) Covent Garden tube. Open Mon-Sat 11.30am-11pm; Sun 12noon-10pm.

thanks Gooner - didn't know it was londons oldest though

in addition to the one's above a great place just around the corner from Marylebone Station is the Seashell Fish 'n Chips in Lisson Grove

http://www.seashellrestaurant.co.uk/

also, there is Livebait in The Cut near Waterloo but thats not like the traditional fish n chips but more trendy and upmarket, and expensive

Livebait - the chain I was thinking of. They have a special lunch menu and often standard F&C are on it and then it's not too expensive - agreed the main menu can be pricey, especially if you hit the vino

Re: Thanks so much!!!

you're welcome, enjoy your day there!

going back a bit, has anyone tried the fish & chips in the Zurich BH? They serve them in the Nordsee bar/deli, about 10 fr I think. They're making a big deal about it with Union Jacks on the posters etc.
