| | | Bad attitude: Do you tell?
If someone is rude to you, or doesn't do a proper job, doesn't give a good service, or give you their thought without asking for it, do you tell them what you think or you just walk away?
How do you handle it?
For me, it depends... sometimes, I'll walk away and forget about it, or it will bother me for a while. Or, depending how angry I am, I will tell what I'm thinking about it straight away!
Special situation where, for sure, I'll tell my thought, will be when someone is unprofessional or someone will tell me what I'm suppose to do.
I know, for many people, they don't bother to argue or say something in those kind of situation. But I found out it was better for me to tell it out instead to keep it in and turn it over and over in my head.
And you?

That's a tricky one. In Australia, I would not have a problem pointing it out. But then again, in Australia, there is a "tall poppy" mentality. Here in CH, it seems you cannot point out mistakes the hierarchy makes. The more they stand behind a counter or sit behind a desk and have a phone to answer, the more authoritative they feel. But this has been my experience. Their standard of English is also quite poor, even though as office personal they are supposed to be able to communicate in English.
You also got 'shot at' by various other individuals when you voice your opinion or what you feel is your right.

I certainly would never criticise a Swiss person in Switzerland for having 'a poor standard of English'.
What a bizarre attitude to take!

I also put the person who has offended me in my 'naughty book', and make a note never to be their friend.

Tell them they have spinach on their teeth. That should knock them off their high horse or out of kilter. |

I've noticed in my neck of the woods that the Swiss are very quick to speak their minds when it comes to poor service or quality of workmanship. If it's bad service in a place like a restaurant then what's done is done -there's no going back so I'll bite my tongue, not leave a tip and I won't go back for a long while. If it's bad workmanship then I'll speak up straight away, and tell them I'm not happy. What tone I take depends of their reaction. If they're polite..I'm polite. If they're dismissive, then I'll be offhand. Seems to work for me but it does help if you speak the lingo.
On the flipside, I never take good service or good workmanship for granted. When I get it I thank them.

And you? | | | | | Stomp feet. Wave hands in air. Shout at nobody in particular about everything that is wrong with the world. Then tell the offending person to bo back to Germany cause they are clearly not Swiss.
This last part REALLY gets up their noses. Might also get you deported, but you feel better about it.

I was told by a Swiss neighbor in the same house as the play group I run, to leave the country and take my German arrogance with Me! I thanked him for the compliment on my German and said nether the less if he had any more complaints he should communicate them to the land lord.
Fight fire with fire.

Maybe his sub-size nether region had something to do with it. |

What a bizarre attitude to take! | | | | | Thanks for pointing this out, i think its bad form to criticise someone trying to communicate with me in a language i know better. Reminds me of aunt alex in To kill a mockingbird, who enjoyed "pointing out the shortcomings of other groups to the greater glory of her own."
