iPod Software (iTunes alternatives) recomendations wanted.

Looking for an alternative solution to using iTunes software to manage the music on my iPod.

Main reason is my iPod was synced with an old machine and now want to update this now (without loosing play lists etc..), but also in the future be able to update this from any machine in the house.

I have ripped all my CD's and stored the data on a NAS which I can access from any computer/laptop in the house.

Any recommendations?

Searching on the Web leads to tons of applications coming up, all claiming to the best alternative solution to iTunes. Some software does not look like it can cope with large libraries.

Main use is with an old iPod Classic 80Gb.

Re: iPod Software (iTunes alternatives) recomendations wanted.

When I changed from an ipod nano to an iphone, I burnt all my tunes onto CD's then imported them into my new iphone catalogue. Might not have been the best way to do it bit it worked for me. I used the same disk to load all the tunes into another pc at work. No sure if thats a viable option for you??

Hey,

Try Rockbox http://www.rockbox.org/, very easy to instal and use. I use it mainly for the crossfade feature that apple softwre doesn't provide yet. Haven't had any problems i use it on my nano but there versions for all versions and generations.

Hope this helps

Hi Caroline,

Thanks, but not the solution I was looking for. I have this data on my NAS (network attached storage), and looking for software to manage this.

Martin, that software does not support the classic?

The search goes on.

A google search using: ipod transfer software

Brings up tons of options. But looking for a recommendation from a reliable source.

Re: iPod Software (iTunes alternatives) recomendations wanted.

I used EphPod (http://www.ephpod.com/) for a while with my iPod, but have not used it for while, as I now only use iTunes (I know, a backward step - but no other software support Airtunes very well or at all)

You could have a look at the following list of software to load an iPod http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._iPod_managers

Re: iPod Software (iTunes alternatives) recomendations wanted.

Did you look at Songbird [1]? Made by Mozilla, the same people who bring us the firefox browser.

I tried this over a year back to simply play music off network devices on a Linux lap top, and for that it worked really well. I didn't get around to using this to sync up the ipod though. Their website claims that they can sync to many music devices not just the iPods.

My issue with iTunes was it was not able to watch the music directory for new mp3's being added, so if someone else added a new album in there iTunes didn't pick it up unless I told it to rescan the directory. Songbird had this feature which I liked.

Cheers

So looks like 'Media Monkey' might be a good option. Have used this in the past instead of Windows Media Player, but did not know it could sync to MP3 players.
