Reader's Digest to file for bankruptcy

The company anticipates filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy quite possibly due to being caught by industrywide advertising slump and mounting debts.

I loved their jokes ( but loathed the crappy sweepstakes junk mail stuff that came with it ) and researched articles.

If they spend more on junk mail and 'Prize Draws' than they receive in sales it is not surprising.

IMHO, even most of their "humor" was second-hand and stale for the past several years. That publication has been a waste of paper for well over a decade. I say good riddance.

Thge Readers Indigestion itself is a carp, but some of the books are very useful - I've got a set of rather nice nature guides from them.

Re: Reader's Digest to file for bankruptcy

so, i am guessing these guys haven't gone bankrupt yet... i keep receiving these mails from them asking me to join another 500K CHF prize draw. I just need to take some sticker from one mail and plaster it to another, and put them in their empty envelope, and send back...

but there are so many of them, and they are in german. i am guessing, at some point, i am supposed to pay them some money, or they should pay me some huge prize money )

is there actually anyone who won anything here?

I have not won anything - or known anyone who has -
however, I have got "The Reader's Digest Guide to the British Isles - which has proved to be a most trusted and useful companion to me for many years.

Re: Reader's Digest to file for bankruptcy

I had to practically threaten them with legal action and violence to get off their mailing list some years back, and it took more than a year to get rid of them. No idea where they got my address, I certainly didn't give it to them, but they sent me trial things I didn't want, and even after sending them back, which is a royal PITA, they still sent me bills and reminders which I also returned. Got so I had to send them notices by registered mail. I hope to hell they go bankrupt and slither down the sewers.

Re: Reader's Digest to file for bankruptcy

I'm sad. Reader's Digest was part of my childhood.

Re: Reader's Digest to file for bankruptcy

My mother got me a 1 year subscription a decade ago and they sent me 2 extra years free. Its ok to read in a waiting room or something but I wouldn't recommend paying for it.
