He quickly made his exit...Don Van Vliet was a bit much for him... Safe as Milk was released in 1967, less than two years later The Magic Band emerged from months of cloistered work and starvation with the landmark Trout Mask Replica:



All composed on piano by Van Vliet, who had never played before, and somehow transcribed into notation by drummer John French and arranged for the band. Too cool for school, man .

Great song. One of my favourite Genesis tracks of all time. I prefer Peter Gabriel's vocals to Phil Collins' for this though.
