i bought an iphone from Swisscom yesterday - not impressed so wondering if i sold it, would it be unlocked for someone else to use?

also what are they going for - its the new 3g 32g model?
no, Swisscom doesn't unlock phones. But even if it's locked: you should easily get 800 Fr. for it

Is the crack due to poor workmanship or manufacturing defect? Was it there when you bought it? If so -> warranty

If the crack happened through use / abuse of the phone, then it is normal wear and tear -> no warranty

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Jaro, take it back. I had this on my 4 month old iPhone 3g, it also used to freeze sometimes and turning it off and back on was the only thing that freed it up, and the battery had only fractionally more longevity than a may fly. I bought it from Mobilezone in Zug (who weren't interested in the faults) and they told me to go to the Apple store in Zurich. The genius guy was great and they swapped it no problem for a brand new 3g, but they wouldn't let me upgrade to a 3gs even if I paid a suppliment.

The new one doesn't freeze and the crack has not appeared yet, touch wood, but the battery life on this one is crap to. I've tried leaving it on charge overnight, and it's normally showing low battery by the time I get home in the evening. I've tried letting it die completely and just charging it until the battery bar is full, and it's still the same. Today I took it off charge (overnight) at 07:30, and it died on the train home from the motor show, and it took maybe 20 photos and was used on calls for maybe 20 mins and the internet for maybe 10's. Some folks seem to get away with charging there phone twice a week, I sometime's have to charge mine twice a day!

What do you iPhone guru's do to get reasonable life from the battery, or have I got another duff iPhone?

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

one of the tips I give people is to turn off their 3g. if you do not need fast internet access on the go just switch it off... it will make a difference as the 3g radio sucks up power like crazy.

PG, I can heartily recommend this emergency power sleeve from mymemory.com, its only £21 and delivery to Switzerland is free. It basically doubles your battery life, if you don't mind a little extra bulk. I've got one and so have two of my work colleagues and all of us are very pleased with it.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

My second or third pair of sennheiser MM50s are on their way out, the remote control has stopped working and the volume changes with every knock of the jack. This model only seem to last around six months for me, are they any good (quality) alternatives?

In all cases it seems that something happens to the wire just as it enters the jack.

Must be hands free and good quality, I'm quite fond of in-ear noise canceling type like the mm50.

Shure make very good headphones and also have a hands-free microphone for iPhone use. Bit spendy though.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

I searched for iphone zoom lock, and didn't find anything, so I'll post this here. Yesterday, my iphone 3gs locked in zoom for some inexplicable reason. A little research on the web suggested that this happens sometimes out of the blue and there are two ways out of it.

THe first is to go to settings/general/accessibility and then adjust the zoom. But this is really difficult if your phone is locked in zoom. The other is to hook it up to itunes, go to the iphone summary tab and click on "configure universal access", and make sure it says neither where there are three choices - zoom, voice over and neither.

If this is redundant, sorry.

I would recommend the Griffin Tunebuds Mobile. The quality is on par with the Creative EP-630 (little brother of your Sennheisers) and the cord is covered with a nylon sheath which makes them extremely durable and tangle resistant. I've been using mine daily for a year now with no issues.

Didn't need to. If you can change the settings in General, then that will work, or changing the universal access settings via iTunes with the iPhone connected.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

I've been using the Sennheiser MM50's as well but get annoyed by the "enhanced bass" that they use.

I was doing a perfunctory browse through other earbuds in Manor the other day, and was amazed how many offer this, presumably as a selling point.

Am I the only one who just wants a clean unenhanced reproduction of the track? If I want to enhance anything I'll do it myself through the EQ, I don't want my earbuds making the choices for me.

I guess they are trying to compensate for some of the loss that mp3s have, but why is it so hard to find reasonably priced ones that just play the track as it is??

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

That's good to know Papa Goose. I have a 16gb 3gs , bought in July last year, and in the last few days, it has gone from charging up to 100% 5 days agao, then suddenly the maximum charge overnight seemed to be 39%, and from there it just kept falling. This morning after an overnight charge, my phone is dead and will not turn on or recharge.
After signing a 24month contract with Orange, I expect my phone to work for 24 months, but should it be under warranty (as the OP suggests with Organe Optima)? I phoned Orange, and as I don't have there rip-off security plan, they said I'm not covered.
Am I a one-off or are other people experiencing this?
Perhaps I should also go to Apple and see if they want to replace it too?

Its worth going to the Apple Store in Zurich, chances are you will get a new phone on the spot. I made the mistake of trying to go through Orange and spent days chasing my tail.

Just remember that you need to make an appointment to see one of their so called Apple Genius', so book early if you want a Saturday slot.

Good luck

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Hmm, wish I had seen Castro's adivce yesterday. I took my phone to orange shop at Basel SBB, who were actually very helpful. They said all iphones have a one year guarantee but said I would be better taking my phone to the mobilezone shope where I bought the contract as they could replace my phone for free rather than the 50chf orange charge.
So off to mobilezone -they were really difficult - they took the phone and said they would send it to orange and it could be returned or replaced in between one and three weeks. They could then SMS me when it arrives (on what?). I tried to ask if I would have to pay anything, but they would not answer me directly and said it depended on if the phone was broken?? They just shrugged their shoulders when I told them about the iphone one year gaurantee.
Makes me want to run back to the mobilezone shop to see if they still have my phione so I can grab it back and take it to zurich!
