Hi everyone I am only interested in purchasing the contractless iphone. I can not get one here in the UK on 11 July. Can anyone in Switzerland help me buy one? Many thanks.

Just out of curiosity, what was the Google search query that brought you here?

It is expressly for those customers who received the email and they ask for the phone number involved to verify. I gave them my swisscom swiss number and my UK Orange number but both times they said they could not help |

For people who are still unsure of which combination of subscription length, carrier, iPhone storage capacity etc. to get, someone made a brilliant excel spreadsheet that should answer all your questions (if you know a little German that is). http://www.macprime.ch/_data/iPhone-xls.zip

Uhmmm, Orange won't let me get the iPhone with a contract till the 28th of August, 3 months ahead of the end of my contract.
Now considering just how much I want that bloody thing right now....

| | | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | This is true, a passport or ID card is sufficient for a prepaid. The law just stipulates an ID check with the ref. nr. of your ID stored in the system (at least for Swisscom) with the ID type.
For contracts a residence permit and/or incorporation for a company certificate is required (the type of document and ref. nr. also stored at least by Swisscom).
Acceptable forms of ID include:
Driving license, ID card, Passport, Swiss resident's permit. | | | | | Is L permit equivalent to residence permit?
I am interested in getting a contract for 24 months(coz there is no Data Volume free with prepaid plans), but donno weather I can get with my L permit
-vib.

Hey I have an iPhone reserved at a swisscom store but I don't like the plans that much and wanted to reserve it somewhere else with an orange plan but it's so hard to find a place that takes orders so I just decided to go to dataquest in the morning of the 11th. Do any of you know how long before the store opens i should go and "line up"? Theysaid that they would get 10-50 (how helpful of them).

One of the first wild sightings of a 3G iphone happened to be here iPhone 3G breaks cover, shows up in Swiss store display
You probably saw this one coming, but with that massive slew of countries and partners Apple has wrangled for the new iPhone launch, that July 11th street date was bound to be neglected. So here you have it, courtesy of the french blog Gadget O'Mac, an iPhone 3G on display in a shop in Switzerland. While the shots may be blurry, we at least get to see this thing in the hands of someone other than an Apple employee, and coupled with that Portuguese leak, this should thoroughly whet your appetite for Friday. Check out a few more shots after the break.
[Thanks, Florence] Continue reading iPhone 3G breaks cover, shows up in Swiss store display |

If I add the damage to my self opinion it is expensive though.

| | | Will Swisscom really start selling at 6:30am Friday?
Just look at the count down timer on the swisscom.ch/iphone site and you can calculate that zero occurs at 6:30am. Anybody know if this is really what is meant / will we be able to walk into a Swisscom shop at that time and buy an iPhone 3G ?

I've been today to swisscom (ex phone house) next to HB, to cancel my reservation of an iphone 16. The guy there open a big folder, but inside not more than 20 reservations ! so the "announced" possible shortage is may be just a trick to see people camping at apple stores.

| | | Orange site weirdness
I had reserved online with Orange a couple of weekends ago. Got the various notification mails from them, though the last one was without the telephone number, it just said I'd receive a mail on the 9th with a link to "My Account".
Well, no email yet, but I looked at my account at about 7:00, lo and behold, iPhones in my offers! But the prices were weird.
There was the table of the options that we've seen before with the same prices, but then to select the phone I was just presented with
CHF 500.- (subscription extended by 12 month)
CHF 600.- (subscription extended by 24 month)
CHF 700.- (subscription extended by 12 month)
CHF 200.- (subscription extended by 24 month)
CHF 300.- (subscription extended by 12 month)
CHF 400.- (subscription extended by 24 month)
No indication of which plan is which!
I called them up, but the guy didn't have a clue what was going on. I looked again just now and the offers have been removed.
Ooh, the price they gave for an iPhone (can't remember if it was the 8 or 16GB model) without a plan was 1000CHF.
Suppose I'll wait for the notification email... drat, thought I'd get in early and snap one up.

I doubt the GPS antenna in my N95 is any bigger, but I can run several Sat-Nav apps without a problem. The only issue is the time to lock which can take upto 2-3 mins, but once it has a fix it holds onto it.
