Last night at Rex saw Up in the Air - with George Clooney. One of those movies you could give an 8/10 or a 4/10 depending on your perspective.

The theme is little more sad/depressing than some of the reviews I've read. There are light-hearted parts, and with Clooney there has to be a romantic involvement(though for once he gets the short end of the straw on that score), but overall it's a reality check for many people in the current climate : be thankful if you are employed!
I really liked the film. I was reluctant to jump on the Clooney fan band wagon, but he adds class to any project. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

Last night we watched Bounty Hunter, starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerald Butler. It was one of the worse films I've ever seen (and I'm not averse to chick flicks), the acting was amateurish, plot completely convoluted and it was full of cliches. However the film's cardinal sin was that it just wasn't funny, I spent more time cringing than I did grinning.

The romantic comedy genre is a pretty easy one, you can have a ridiculous plot, unknown actors but if you can make your audience laugh you're home and dry.

2/10
You should hold your head in shame that you have contributed to that movie. When was the last good Jennifer Aniston or Gerard Butler romantic comedy.

Has anyone seen Mr & Mrs Smith with Pitt and Jolie? A favourite of mine is Waking Ned Devine - classic English black comedy.

Re: Movie recommendations

Really loved "GURU - Bhagwan, His Secretary & His Bodyguard"

Although this is a very interesting documentary about one particular sect it can also be seen as being something more universal.

The two "witnesses" are both great characters making the documentary sometimes amusing but also sometimes a little cringeworthy.

Re: Movie recommendations

I watched Robin Hood last night. I was fidgeting in the first half of the 140 minutes movie and the movie crammed all the action in the last 20 minutes.

Not the finest Ridley Scott and Crowe collaboration

This movie has received loads of bad reviews...yet I am still sure it will do well at the box office because of all the publicity.

Definetly won't go and see it.

Robin Hood is ok, average, not bad. Cate Blanchett is hot and the merry men don't really get much of look in second half of the film.
Good film for a rainy afternoon, not much more than that.

Going X-gen retro here but...

Swingers one of VV's earlier movies, very very funny.
Man With Two Brains one of SM's earlier works.

Dunno I find block buster actors seem to have more raw talent before they hit the big time, which reiterates why they made it big in the first place. I call it the U2 effect.

One to look out for in the future...

Iron Sky (you can donate some cash to help get it made, and maybe make some profit from it too)

Currently at Cannes looking for distributors, I think, and aiming for a 2011 release.

Has anyone seen "The Man from Earth" by Jerome Bixby and Richard Schenkman ?
A very good movie for Sci-fi fans. Not from the usual michaelbay-jjabrams-school of scifi.

A movie that makes you pause and think.

A good watch IMHO.

Agreed. Maybe we went in with Gladiator-ish expectations and came out wanting. We were left expecting the movie to really start by the time it got over.

I thought it was an excellent movie. Even though it looks like a Made for TV production, it has that dialogue driven feel to it that reminds me of other modern greats like Primer.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Funniest scenes with the rotting body of a good friend. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3263993344/tt0419294
Good stuff from Tommy Lee Jones and Barry Pepper.

Re: Movie recommendations

Went to Rex yesterday to see the horror 'The Crazies'. Zombie horrors usually get the heart pumping (e.g 28 Weeks Later), but this one was a little too predictable.
