Where would you advise to buy a car seat for a newborn?

Hi, my friend will give a birth until February so we wanted to buy them a new car seat as they did not buy it yet, but I do not know where to buy? Is there any store for babies except ToysRUs? Where to go and buy an appropriate car seat? I am living in ZH
thnx

Re: Where would you advice to buy a car seat for a newborn?

Car seat regulations are about to change from 1st April this year (no joke).

Make sure you get the right one, and not a second-hand one that will become illegal after 1.04. - ask in a specialist shop. Perhaps someone on here has more details. I know we'll have to buy a new one for our toddler, and I imagine there will be a lot of people trying to offload their "hardly used, good condition ones".

Pro Baby, Baby-walz and Manor to name a few. We've bought seats from Pro Baby in Bassersdorf and Manor and they both had decent selections.

This is what TCS says:

Translation (by me - not a lawyer )

From 1 April 2010, children up to 12 years of age and 150cm (whatever applies first) must use a car seat. Up until now, the age limit was 7 years of age, and this was very low compared to EU countries. In addition, children's carseats must have an "ECE" sticker on them, versions 44.03 or .04.
All new car seats sold at present comply with this european norm. Older car seats from before 1995 with the norms 44.01 or .02 are no longer permitted from this date.

Re: Where would you advice to buy a car seat for a newborn?

We bought ours from babyhaus.ch
address is:
Wehrli Bébéhaus AGAddress:
Schaffhauserstrasse 958057 Zürich
044 366 61 61
they have 4-5 parking places outside

The lady at the counter was quite helpful against my prejudice.
We asked her to help us install the seat in our car parking outside. She wud not help because of legal issues but nevertheless gave us a lot instructions while we did it -in freezing weather.

Re: Where would you advice to buy a car seat for a newborn?

As far as I understand, from April every child below 12 or 150cm must be in a car seat.

Also series 01 and 02 are not allowed anymore. This should be on a sticker on the car seat, as shown in the pdf document you can download on the following website:

http://www.tcs.ch/main/de/home/auto_...ndersitze.html

the pdf:

Good advice. My dad saw car seats on sale in Australia and he got another one for his car so he won't need to move the seat from car to car. The law changed soon after and now he has a seat that's illegal. Cheeky retailers.
