I was tempted to buy one, for the Blu-Ray player ....
But I really prefer not to have a playing device at home.
At some point, some years ago, I started to play games on the PC. Now I simply see that as a waste of time.
For playing I go outside.

I have Assasins's creed which I think is the nuts. Have only had about 10 hours playing time so far but love it!
what do you think? | Quote: | | | | | Just bought the following games secondhand in the UK: - Assasin's Creed
- The new Tony Hawks jobby
- Virtua Tennis 3
Anyone got these and enjoyed them? | | | | | |

Has anyone bought anything from the Playstation Network shop?
I have my account registered as a UK owner - I tried initially to register as a Swiss user, but only got the choice of Deutsch, Francais or Italiano languages. Most inconvenient. Decided to stick as UK so I could understand what's going on.
So when I tried to make a purchase at the shop, I had to use a UK Bank Account/Visa Card to pay with, which I don't have - I wasn't given any other choice.
I asked PlayStation what to do and they couldn't give me an answer. So much for the Email Helpdesk. They asked me to ring a premium rate hotline, which I'm very loathed to do. They already dropped the price of the PS3 almost as soon as I bought it so I'm not lining their pockets with even more of my hard earned francs unless I have to.
Has anyone discovered a way around this? I'd be eager to find out.

and at the same time raised the prices for the games to 109 Fr. a piece - that's simply insane. Especially when your game (CoD 4) can be finished in less than a single week-end and the online-player mode doesn't work. Great.
If it weren't for the Blueray drive, I'd sell the PS3 at once and go back to the Xbox 360.

Really? That sucks. I took my first look at the online shop last night and was quite impressed. Some of those smaller games they have for download for a few squid look like a lot of fun. The demos section looked good too.

I have no idea how much Sony charges for games in their online shop.
But new games seem to sell for 109.- in Manor, Mediamarkt and the like.

yeah, the game rocked - but the total playing time was a bit of a let-down.
Does the multiplayer / online mode work for you? I never got it working right. Sometimes I get to join a game after having waited for 15 minutes - only to get kicked out again after one round.

I have had PS3 for a couple of months now and am absolutely impressed . It was originally purchased as a gift for my son but it looks like mummy and daddy get more playtime these days . I have mine hooked up to my wireless lan and it works great ......... Even the remote control for the DVD can be used as a games joystick .... And the best part is , you can play PS2 games on it as well .

not a ps3 bashing thread, more a COD4 appreciation post.
I have COD4 on my xbox 360 and wow what a game. Game of the year for me. The single player was on the shorter side i suppose but in terms of quality over quantity is was everything it could be. Wow, is it good. God knows why sites like gamespot gave it a 9.0 out of 10 compared to 9.6 out of 10 for halo 3, which sucks compared to COD4 in my opinion.
Infitinity ward are the best game developer working today hands down. I actually wish they made movies, im sure they would be far better than most of the focus group tested action dross i have been forced to watch over the last couple of years.
Too bad that the ps3 online component is generally so badly developed compared to the 360´s which is a forte of the machine if you ask me... such a pleasure and load of fun to play online, and for me COD4 is easily the best online FPS game out there.

I used to be addicted to COD1/2 etc. on the PC.
I cannot understand why anyone would want to play this game with a joy pad.
I own and love the Playstation 3, it's pure class so don't get me wrong, but COD belongs on a PC!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently you can register different user accounts with different PSN stores, maybe you could try that?
There are some pretty good games on PSN,

Otherwise speak to me nicely and I might loan you it.

Yes you can, there's a list somewhere of compatible video formats. Pics I loaded via USB and Memcard, CD's well it rips them straight from the disk similar to I tunes.
Pretty straight forward.
Start d/l demos that should start to fill up the disk nicely |

Sony are pitching the PS3 as a media centre, so yeah, you can put your music and movies on there (so long as they're in the right format). But they're also gonna be a lot of downloadable games, demos and add-ons to keep it full. I had to clear mine out the other day as I ran out of room.
The PS3 should be supporting UPnP, which means you should be able to host all your media on another machine and access it from the PS3. I haven't got it to work with my Mac yet though, but soon....

| | | PS3 to buy or not to buy?
Our two boys have been dropping hints about replacing the PS2 with Playstation 3, my question is, is it worth the CHF700 investment, bearing in mind that it will be plugged into their TV upstairs which is an old 26inch Thomson CRT. Are they going to notice any real difference when playing FIFA 08 and ratchet and clank etc.
Not being a dedicated gamer I can’t see what you get for your money with this PS3, any thoughts?
Nick.
