I use my XBox as a back up anyway. More than anything else to vent out my frustrations with Grand Theft Auto. Most of my game time is still sucked up playing Red Orchestra on PC as "purists" say games fps games should be played...
And with the new version of RO coming out this year I foresee great amounts of sleep to be lost in my future...

Ordered it!

It's not an Elite, but it's the Pro system, so 60GB hard drive, component cable, and headset included. The only thing extra you get in the Elite is 60GB more hard drive space. And a different colour, if you care about that sort of thing. Worth the extra 50 francs? Don't think so. Plus, you don't get Gears of War 2. It's a sweet deal, a friend of mine got it, too.

I thought the Elite also had a HDMI Output? And judging by the price of a 120Gb harddrive off the shelf, I'd say 50 francs is worth it.

I only have the 20Gb HD and it's a pain in the arse. Can't copy the game disks on to the harddrive as theres barely enough space.

Component is also HD. And I don't really plan to install that many games. Still, 60GB is nothing to sneeze at.

Don't they all have hdmi out now? I think mine is the 20gb version and I can only fit 1 game on there (gta), I bought it when gta came out, so a while ago now, and it has hdmi.

Yeah, the Zephyr system I ordered has an HDMI output. But the Component that's included outputs 1080p, so no need. That's the confusion many people have with Component, that it's not true HD, but that's not true for games. If your TV accepts 1080p through Component (which mine does), it's just as good. Component only does 1080i for movies, but I use my PS3 to upscale movies anyway, so it's a moot point.

Had a look on the xbox website and it still says E74 errors are covered by 3 year warranty - page was last updated november 2009.

Although if they repair an xbox with this fault it is only covered for another year. My original one died after 2 years, the repair/replacement then died with rings of death - pretty much 2 years to the day and they said i would have to pay for repair - so I just bough myself an elite.

i have a 360 but rarely use it these days as i find it so damn noisy. i have a ps3 too and im happy with that for my gaming, media, blu ray needs.

i still think the xbox has a great online service, but i cancelled my xbox live membership because i think 90 chf is too much when sonys service is free (and works well enough for me).

i still keep my eye out for interesting downloadable games on xbox live though, and im looking forward to the eventual release of project natal or whatever its called (motion sensing technology).

if MS brought out a near silent smaller 360 with no power brick, i would be tempted to replace my existing one, thats for sure. but im sure MS wont do it. probably too scared of getting it wrong again and having round two of red rings of death.

I'm definitely not getting Live Gold, local multiplayer is good enough for me. But that's what kept me away from the 360 for the longest time, all the hidden costs (as well as the hardware problems). Having to pay for online, or for a wi-fi adapter if your TV is too far away, or for expensive proprietary hard drives. The 360 really isn't cheaper than the PS3, especially if you're buying it for yourself.

That's cool but for me, playing with people all over the planet is fantastic. The fun easily outweighs the small cost on Live. You get more for ur buck than in day one.

As for Xbox problems, I've had no problems since they came out. I know others have of course but so have many on the PS3.

True. My mate bought a PS3 in Singapore in 2007. It was a Hong Kong import, and when the laser failed, Sony told him to get it repaired, he'd have to personally bring it to Hong Kong as they wouldn't accept couriers.

He eventually bought the part on ebay and replaced it himself. It worked for about a month, then the CD loading mechanism packed in. He literally threw it down the rubbish shoot.. after bouncing it off the floor a few times.

he went out a week later and bought a new one.

I had a few issues with the Xbox myself, but never had the RROD. And every time I've been on to Microsoft they've been exceptionally helpful. Even sent me a free power brick when I fried mine. Of course, I never explained how it got fried...

Not kinky at all, unless you're into that sort of thing...

It was a US Xbox that I brought home to Ireland. I tried running it on Irish mains, using an industrial transformer and a plug adaptor. Unfortunately the poor little power brick was not prepared for the massive surge when the traffo came on... Blue smoke and that wonderful burnt out electronics smell.

But, I called Microsoft in the UK, re-registered the serial number with them and 1 week later, they had sent me the new power brick, free of charge. Didn't even have to pay postage.
