New apartment leaving conditions?

A Swiss colleague of mine was saying yesterday that the clause in rental contracts whereby you may only leave your apartment at the end of March and September has been abolished. She said provided you give your landlord 3 months notice you may leave whenever you like (i.e. without having to find tenants to replace you).

This would suit my boyfriend and I brilliantly and I'm interested to know if it really is the case. And if the rules have changed would they apply to our current rental contract (in Zürich) or only to future contracts?

Thanks,

Michelle

Re: New apartment leaving conditions?

The best place to start would be to consult your agency.

Re: New apartment leaving conditions?

I agree you should call the agency/landlord. We are moving & we were told that there shouldn't be a problem finding new tenants & that we could be out on the date we requested (i.e. in a month & a 1/2). They even said we didn't need to look for new tenants as they have many requests!

Re: New apartment leaving conditions?

This was in the paper yesterday. But apparently the law won't be passed for another two years!
