Hi, I'm in a similar situation as the OP.

My question is, until when I have to keep paying the rent if the other tenant doesn't want to terminate the contract?

See the post from Ziger above. You can't simply stop paying (no matter how long it's been); you have to reach some arrangement with the other tenant, either privately or by going to court.

Im afraid if they dont sign you may need to get a court order. I was lucky enough to escape that in my situation, but I hear the courts in these cases act relatively swiftly.

Instead however my former flatmate is giving me all sorts of other grief relating to handover and deposits etc.

Trust me I know exactly how much a bitch it is...

Thanks for the replies. It is for sure the last time I sign a contract like this, I feel completely trapped!
