Re: Homeless people living in our apartment building!

Since one month there are homeless people living in our apartment building. They started originally sleeping in the basement, but turned it into a smelly shithole by pissing absolutely everywhere! Now they are sleeping outside our doors and pissing in the stairwell! I have seen them stealing letters from our boxes, and I'm sure that they are on drugs, and in addition frankly they look pretty scary and potentially dangerous.

In the past our old concierge would lock the main building door after 6pm, so we never had these problems. Now we have a new concierge who does not lock it. We've called several times to our regie who claim there is nothing they can do, just for us to call the police.

The police, what are they going to do, kick them out, and they come back 20 minutes later. Plus the guys will know who called the police (last person to see them).. and I'm not sure what the consequences would be...

We've lived here, in what was a respectable building during the last 4 years, happily without issue. How the hell are we supposed to deal with this?

On top of it all, Switzerland has always been a safe, easy going place.. and now outside my door it feels like a crackden! My girlfriend is terrified...

Anyone any ideas? We dont want to move.. that would anyway take months in geneva, if we're lucky. We just want to solve this problem

This is where Swiss neighbor comes in handy.

Yes, even if you don't eat it.

Anybody who owns or has in their household any devices or implements that can be used for making or eating pie has to pay for the Billag pie. As it is nowadays possible to eat pie with youir fingers anybody who has fingers and/or teeth has to pay. Claiming not to ever eat pie is no excuse. Inspectors will be on the way to your house to enforce this, and make sure you don't run out of raw materials for making further pies.

alanmack,

This thread got a little diverted.

I'm curious to know whether you've sorted this out and how you did it.

Re: Homeless people living in our apartment building!

While I can't offer much help, I can't believe this is going on, seems like a very unswiss thing to be happening. Obviously if I was in any country I would be appaled if this was my building. How about if not actually moving, but threatening to move/go to the authorities if nothing is done by the landlord? If they still don't do anything, I would go to the local police and explain the situation and that one call isn't doing anything. Hope this gets resolved for your sake!

Re: Homeless people living in our apartment building!

You could dress up as a ragged homeless pan-handler vagabond yourself and start living in the basement on your own, and then do things so shocking that the actual homeless druggies are so appalled at your actions that they refuse to live there under the circumstances. Problem solved!

Re: Homeless people living in our apartment building!

you could provide them with a bucket and stick a copy of the house rules on the basement door.

Re: Homeless people living in our apartment building!

Having recently moved to Geneva and not being on the normal expat salary of chf 200,000 salary and not being able to find an apartment in the city; I have made temporary accommodation in an apartment block on Rue de la Servette.

What I find very disappointing is that a lot of expats seem incredibly selfish and certainly not charitable and wont even let me use their toilet and look at me in disgust. They are obviously not Christian and read the parable of The Good Samaritan.

Interestingly, IIRC, there is a Good Samaritan shelter on rue de la Servette.
