What was the damage exactly? If it's just cosmetic damage to the outside of the house I don't know that you can force the landlord to repair it. If your windows were smashed, making the place unlivable-innable, that's a different story.
Also, has the landlord informed you that he's keeping all/part of your deposit to pay for damages? or are you just assuming that because he hasn't refunded it yet? As posted above, he's got 12 months to do so.
