Apartment change after 2 weeks stay in Zurich - Pls help

Hi Friends,
Recently I moved to a new apartment in Zürich, Schmiede Wiedikon. As I'm new to this place I don't prefer this locality after my stay of 2 weeks.... I don't have any agreement with my housing agency for the minimum stay in current apartment. So can anyone please help me to clarify if I can move to some other apartment by providing the specified notice period? Will it have some bad impression at Local resgistration office?
Thanks a ton for help...

You might want to reach the Tenants Association ( Mieterverband ) for advice:

http://www.mieterverband.ch/zh_kontakt.0.html

Membership is a good idea, costs less than CHF100 a year. They communicate in English as well.

And welcome to the forum.

You're not in Prison mate...... you can move, but yes, there are things you should be aware of.

a)* each contract is different, so it's important to note what the minimum time frame is to stay there, and what (if any) consequenses there may be.

b) find somewhere you do like to move to first...... it's not as easy as you think, so perhaps where you are right now isn't so bad.

c) save up - moving here is expensive and you should budget for an 'overlap' in rent costs.
CLEANING costs are high, as are the expectations of what is clean.

* Just elaborating on point a)
It is likely that the worst thing that can happen to you is that there might be a 3 month minimum that you will have to 'pay' but not necessarily mean you have to stay there.
Within a certain time frame, many contracts will state that you are responsible for finding the replacement tennant.
Advertise here, and on 'homegate' for that..... rental demand is high, so it shouldn't be too hard.

But now....... go and read your contract, and speak to the landlord.

Should be under "Kündigungsfrist" or something like that. You can post it to me and I can translate for you ...

No not really since to use EF after the case is a bit late!

Much better to bring a german speaking friend along to the signing or get an english translation ahead of time.

Hi Everyone,

Generally I read the first page which states Kündigungsbestimungen: 3 monat(e) sum voraus aug jedes monatsende (ausser Dezember). Since to understand the full contract of 12 pages I don't have that German knowledge...Also it was my mistake I took this apartment from someone in a hurry so didn't thought of showing this paper to my German friends...

looks like you have a standard notice - three months (Except if the end of the three months is December). You can usually do one month notice if you provide suitable potential replacement tenants to the landlord.

What don't you like about the neighborhood though? Are you in the center of the two churches?
