Hi, i want to move out of our apartment fairly soon, does anybody know if i leave it until March can we just go without having to find someone to take over the lease. Im sure we were told March or Sept we can leave, and if so would i need to give notice now for March

Read your contract, you might need to give 2 months notice to 31st March, in which case you need to get the resignation letter to the owner / agency before the last working hour of the last working day in January, ie (for this month) before the end of 31st January. Use a witness, or send it by registered letter.

You might also not be able to leave yet, it might state "this contract runs until xxyyzzz", "earliest leaving date is 30 September 2012", you need to read your contract thoroughly!
