Live with children in Interlaken Bern

Hello
Im Swedish, and looking to move around Interlaken with my Husband and five children. My children speak English, and today we live in the UK.

Do anyone living around that area or know how it is to live there?
Rent price for 4 bedroom, Schools, doctors etc.

Cheers Helen

Re: Live with children in Interlaken Bern

Hi Helen, welcome to the forum.

Your question is quite wide and difficult to know where to begin....i live in Thun, not Interlaken, so close but not too familiar with schools, doctors etc, but maybe can help with areas and the like. For housing, google Immoscout or Homegate and search and you'll get an idea of costs and availability

Its something which you need to get used to on EF....people answering a different question to that asked......but can i do the same? Does it HAVE to be Interlaken? If not, depending on language skills and how far you are willing to go and how hard you are willing to work to integrate....you may want to consider somewhe more cosmopolitan, like Bern?

Living in the Oberland myself, it is a beautiful area, but you need to make compromises. The people can be pretty closed and there will be relatively few foreigners or eg English speaking schools etc. Maybe you guys want to throw yourselves in at the deep end and that is no problem to you....if so, all credit to you. And maybe you all speak some German too. But if your kids only speak English and Swedish, International schooling is at least something to be considered.....especially if your move here isn't permanent.

Let me know if you need more help

I grew up in the area and know it well.
First of all, Interlaken itself is only a village of five which altogether form the "Bödeli" or for any strangers Interlaken. Most people either commute to Thun or Bern or work in the tourist industry. Natives may seem distant, but once you cracked the shell they will be you friends for ever. Due to the tourist industry there are lot's of foreigners working and living there.
Finding a four bedroom flat or house will be tough, simply because there is not much on the market.
All five villages have their own schools, there are a Gymnasium and two professional schools on place. The next international school is in Münsingen near Bern. Doctors are around as well as a fully equipped hospital.
