Expectations - Housing prices in Basel?

What does CHF4,500 a month get you in Basel for house or apartment?

You should be able to get something pretty decent for that amount. We were looking about 6 months ago and most detached houses were around 3500-4000chf.

Eye wateringly expense compared to what we were used to in the UK but it seems quite the norm here...

A very large apartment in any area you want, or a very decent house.

Not sure about size (sorry) but we were looking for a 4+ bed house with outdoor space.

The main problem we had apart from price was that landlords wanted us to commit to a long lease, anywhere from 3yrs plus with no break clause which we were not willing to do.
